The film in the headline is Candy Cane Lane (2023), a Christmas fantasy comedy starring Eddie Murphy. It has been described as finding streaming success, but the available reporting does not provide a dated audience figure or chart position to verify how large that success was. And calling it Murphy’s “only” Christmas movie is disputed: some viewers count Trading Places as a Christmas film.
What is Candy Cane Lane about?
Murphy plays Chris, who is determined to win his neighborhood’s Christmas-decorating contest. His efforts take a magical turn when he makes a deal with an elf, played by Jillian Bell, who brings the Twelve Days of Christmas to life. Tracee Ellis Ross plays Chris’s wife.

Is it really a streaming hit?
The phrase “streaming hit” needs a measurable basis: for example, a dated chart position, a viewing total, or a stated measurement period and region. The surfaced Collider article excerpt, dated December 19, 2025, says the film found “some streaming success,” but the excerpt does not show the underlying metric. Without that figure, it is not possible to establish a rank, audience size, or how long the film performed well.
#1 Best Overall
That distinction matters because streaming services do not necessarily publish comparable viewing data for every title. The available material supports describing the film as having been reported to find some streaming success; it does not substantiate a stronger claim about the scale or persistence of that success.
Why is “only Christmas movie” disputed?
Candy Cane Lane was marketed as Murphy’s first Christmas movie, but “Christmas movie” is a matter of classification as well as marketing. The Collider excerpt notes that some viewers point to Trading Places, which is associated with Christmas, as a counterexample.
Rank #2
Whether Trading Places counts depends on the definition: a film set during the holiday season may be considered a Christmas movie by some viewers even if Christmas is not its central premise. The available material does not settle every boundary between a Christmas feature, a holiday-set film, and a special. “Only Christmas movie” is therefore best read as headline framing, not an uncontested fact.

About Amazon’s November 2023 film guide said Candy Cane Lane was available on Prime Video, and Imagine Entertainment also identifies Amazon Prime Video as its streaming platform. Those are platform statements from their respective publication dates, not confirmation of current availability in every country. Check the Prime Video catalog in your region for present access; a regional listing or past platform mention does not establish global availability.
