“Azizam” is a Persian term of endearment meaning “my dear” or “my beloved.” Ed Sheeran released the single on 4 April 2025; the April date is now a past release date, not an upcoming announcement.
What does Ed Sheeran’s “Azizam” mean?
The title is Persian and is commonly translated as “my dear” or “my beloved.” The Official Charts Company gives the pronunciation as “ah-zee-zam” and explains the word as derived from “Aziz” (“beloved”) with “-am” as a possessive suffix. This is the reported explanation in the available coverage, rather than a detailed linguistic analysis.
When was “Azizam” released?
Warner Music Ireland announced the single on 4 April 2025 and said it was released that day. ABC News also reported the release on 4 April. An earlier Official Charts explainer said the release date had not yet been confirmed; that pre-release uncertainty was superseded by the release-day announcement.
How did the song come together?
Warner says the song began in the studio with Swedish-Iranian producer Ilya Salmanzadeh, also known as ILYA. The label described the track as bringing Persian and Irish folk influences into a pop setting. That is the label’s account of the collaboration, not a comprehensive description of either musical tradition.

#1 Best Overall
Sheeran said he wanted to create a party atmosphere and described the result as different from his previous work while still feeling familiar to him. In a later interview with NPR, published on 16 September 2025, he said choosing “Azizam” as a lead single was a risk in Western-leaning markets, while he saw potential for it to work globally.
What formats were offered at release?
Warner listed digital streaming, CD, and 7-inch vinyl as release formats. The announcement establishes the formats offered at release, not present-day stock, prices, specific pressing details, or availability on a particular streaming service or in a particular territory.

What happened with the video at launch?
ABC News described a pink-heart video shown around the song’s launch as an “unofficial video.” The report said Sheeran had posted that the official video would follow in a few weeks. Those were separate video events, so the launch video should not be mistaken for the official video.
