ECW’s championship history includes three official title lineages—the World Heavyweight, World Television and World Tag Team championships—plus a later WWE-era version of the world title. Each had distinct belt designs. This ranking compares the major documented designs by plate shape and proportions, ECW lettering, contrast, division identity, originality and fit with ECW’s era. The order is a visual judgment, not a historical consensus.
The FTW Championship is included as a separate ECW-associated belt, not an official ECW title lineage. WWE’s Hardcore Championship is excluded because it was a separate WWE title.
What counts as an ECW championship belt?
ECW established its World Heavyweight, World Television and World Tag Team championships in 1992. The Television and Tag Team titles were retired in 2001; the World Heavyweight lineage continued through WWE’s later ECW brand and ended in 2010. WWE’s official title history frames the ECW Championship as a retired lineage spanning 1994–2010, while detailed design chronologies trace the earlier ECW title history as well. WWE’s ECW Championship history and the design chronology help distinguish those periods.
The title histories list multiple design eras for the Television and Tag Team championships, so each is ranked as a lineage of variants rather than represented by only its final belt. The descriptions below identify the documented design periods; the chronology sources do not establish detailed plate-by-plate specifications for every version, so the ranking focuses on the overall visual identity rather than claiming exact measurements or materials.

How the ranking works
The designs are judged for silhouette and plate proportions, the prominence and legibility of ECW lettering, contrast and finish, how clearly the belt signals its division, visual distinction from other promotions’ belts, and fit with ECW’s identity in its particular era. No survey or named-person evaluation establishes a consensus favorite; the ranking is an editorial assessment.
Ranked: ECW’s major championship belt designs
1. ECW World Heavyweight Championship — original ECW-era designs
The original World Heavyweight title designs take the top position for making the central championship feel like the promotion’s defining prize. The lineage began in ECW’s 1992 championship system and passed through multiple documented design periods. Their strongest design role is straightforward: the belt represents the highest-ranked singles title, rather than a specialty division. That centrality gives its visual identity more force than the Television or Tag Team belts, even as the specific design changed over time.

The title’s chronology is available in the ECW World Heavyweight Championship design history. Since the source records periods rather than a full technical specification for every plate, this ranking does not assign unsupported distinctions to individual variants.
2. ECW World Television Championship — final ECW-era variations
The Television title earns second place for having a clear division identity: it is a singles championship distinct from the top world title. Its history includes ECW Television, NWA-ECW Television and several ECW World Television design periods through April 2001. That succession makes the title’s design history particularly important; a single final-belt image would not represent the full lineage.

The championship began in 1992 and was retired in 2001. WWE’s title page marks it retired, and the design chronology records its variants. Its more specialized role gives it a distinct place in the collection, though it does not carry the same top-title symbolism as the World Heavyweight belt.
3. ECW World Tag Team Championship — the evolving team-title designs
The Tag Team championship designs rank third, but their value is in representing a different kind of competition rather than imitating a singles world title. Its multiple dated belt periods make it another lineage that should be shown as variants, not collapsed into one representative image. The championship was established in 1992 and retired in 2001.

WWE’s title history marks the belt retired; the historical design chronology catalogs its design periods. The ranking places it below the two singles titles on visual hierarchy and division legibility, not as a judgment on the title’s importance to ECW’s history.
4. WWE-era ECW Championship design
WWE’s revival of the ECW brand continued the World Heavyweight lineage with a later ECW Championship design. It belongs in a complete account because the title history crossed from the original promotion into WWE’s ECW period before retirement in 2010. The WWE-era presentation is best understood as a continuation of the top title, but visually it also marks a different production context from the original ECW designs.

- Simulated Leather straps made from polyurethane.
WWE’s official ECW Championship history covers the retired lineage from 1994 to 2010; the specialist chronology supplies the design-era details. This later design ranks below the original-era top title and the division-specific classic belts because its connection to ECW’s original visual identity is less direct.
5. FTW Championship — ECW-associated, but separate
The FTW belt belongs in the conversation because it is closely tied to ECW history, but it is not part of the official World Heavyweight, Television or Tag Team title lineages. Taz introduced the FTW Championship in 1998; the historical archive says it was later unified with the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. It is therefore a storyline outlier rather than another sanctioned ECW championship lineage.
That distinction matters more than its placement: the FTW belt represents a separate championship concept, not a variant of one of ECW’s three official title belts. The ECW historical archive provides the basis for its introduction and unification history.

WWE Hardcore Championship
The WWE Hardcore Championship is not an ECW championship. WWE describes it as inspired by ECW’s popularity, but it remained a separate WWE title. It should not be added to a list of ECW championship designs. See WWE’s Hardcore Championship history.
