In Metacritic’s PS5 snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, the game had a 78 Metascore from 42 critic reviews. That score is specific to PS5 and may change.
What is the critic consensus?
Reviews describe Dying Light: The Beast as an open-world survival horror game built around first-person parkour and zombie combat. The main appeal, according to the sampled coverage, is the blend of fast traversal, action and horror in an explorable setting. The main reservation is that the experience may feel recognizably like earlier Dying Light games rather than a major reinvention.
Metacritic’s PS5 critic page showed a score of 78/100 from 42 reviews in a snapshot accessed October 8, 2026: 31 positive, eight mixed and one negative. This is a platform-specific aggregate, not a score for every version; Metacritic maintains separate platform pages, and both scores and review counts can change. See Metacritic’s review listings.
What reviewers praise
Parkour and combat
TechRadar’s PC review highlights parkour-driven movement and dense zombie action, while noting that the series’ underlying formula remains familiar. GamesRadar likewise presents the game as a polished action-horror experience, with traversal among its strengths. Together, these reviews suggest that players who value movement and hands-on combat are likely to find the clearest appeal here.

Atmosphere and exploration
GamesRadar also praises the story, while reviews listed on Metacritic include positive descriptions of the tense experience and explorable open world. Metacritic’s review listings also capture enthusiasm for the returning protagonist and the Beast abilities. These are publication perspectives, not a guarantee that every critic or player will respond to those elements in the same way.
What gives critics pause?
Familiarity with the series
TechRadar’s review says the game remains recognizable as a Dying Light entry. That may be a plus if you want more of the series’ movement-and-combat mix, but a drawback if you are looking for a substantial change in direction.

The setting and side content
PC Gamer describes rural Castor Woods as a broad map that can be less suited to rooftop traversal than a dense city, and discusses a shortage of side quests early in the game. That is a specific criticism of the map’s fit for parkour and the early side-quest experience—not evidence that the entire world lacks exploration or that side content stays sparse throughout.
Story and consistency
Reviews are not unanimous about the narrative and supporting activities: GamesRadar identifies the story as a strength, while the sampled coverage includes broader concerns about uneven story or side-quest elements. If narrative momentum or a steady stream of optional tasks matters more to you than movement and combat, those differences are worth weighing.

How should you interpret the scores?
Critic aggregates and player-review percentages are different measures. Steam’s English-language user-review result showed 87% positive among 26,489 reviews in a search-result snapshot accessed October 8, 2026. It reflects Steam user sentiment in that snapshot, not critics’ evaluations or the reception on other platforms. Check the Steam listing and current user-review information.
For the critic score, keep the platform and date attached: the 78 is the PS5 Metascore snapshot, not a universal rating. Neither aggregate can tell you by itself whether the game’s particular balance of parkour, combat, exploration and story suits your preferences.
