Drew McIntyre’s career is a story of early promise, a difficult WWE exit, reinvention on the independent circuit and a return to the top. This timeline follows the major turning points; each photograph should be matched to a verified event and date by its owner before publication.
Training and the road to WWE
McIntyre began training to become a wrestler at 15, according to WWE’s biography. He came up through the U.K. independent scene before joining WWE. A USA Network interview identifies his WWE debut as 2007.

The first WWE run: “The Chosen One” and 3MB
WWE’s account describes McIntyre as a 21-year-old signee who was presented as “The Chosen One.” His early push gave way to a very different chapter as a member of 3MB. The contrast makes this era useful in a visual timeline: the promise of a rapid rise, followed by a less prominent role.

Release and independent reinvention, 2014–17
WWE dates McIntyre’s release to June 2014. He later described using the period to rebuild his name across independent promotions, including EVOLVE and Insane Championship Wrestling. In a WWE interview, he recalled: “I became EVOLVE Champion in my very first match, which is pretty crazy, but exactly the start I needed as I began my mission.”

Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 36, 2020
McIntyre won the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble, then defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 to capture his first WWE Championship. WWE’s report on the match is dated April 5, 2020. The event took place at the WWE Performance Center during the COVID-19 shutdown period, with a virtual crowd rather than the usual live audience.
McIntyre later reflected on the unusual circumstances in a USA Network interview: “I was the first WWE Champion during a time when the entire world was shutting down.” That is his description of the moment; the setting itself is part of what makes images from the match distinct in his career timeline.

Later chapters: Money in the Bank and CM Punk
WWE’s current profile lists McIntyre as the 2024 Men’s Money in the Bank winner and identifies his 2023–24 conflict with CM Punk as a major storyline. This is a snapshot of that profile, not a claim about his current status or results after those milestones.
Photo opportunity: For later images, confirm the event date and result against WWE’s latest official record before captioning. A fan archive may display images from WWE and other promotions, but its availability does not establish an image’s provenance, accuracy or reuse permission.
A photograph-led retrospective depends on precise captions as much as striking images. For every picture, establish who or what it shows, the event or promotion, the verified date and the image owner’s permission before publication.
