Why creators came up in Drake’s lawsuit
Drake sued UMG in federal court in New York in January 2025, alleging that the label promoted “Not Like Us” despite what he said were false accusations in the song. Kendrick Lamar was not named as a defendant. UMG disputed Drake’s claims. The lawsuit sought a trial and unspecified damages, according to the Associated Press.
Drake’s complaint discussed online reaction creators as part of his broader allegation that UMG had promoted the track, including by enabling creators to use or monetize reaction videos through whitelisting. That was Drake’s allegation—not a court finding that UMG paid creators, directed their reactions, or arranged for them to make particular comments. The creators mentioned in the reporting were not defendants in the lawsuit.
Which creators were mentioned, and what did they say?
A January 2025 roundup by RapTV names five creators or creator groups in this context. Its descriptions are secondary reporting of their responses, not independently authenticated transcripts.

Zias and B. Lou
RapTV reported that Zias said the lawsuit confused him and that he and his family received threats. He said UMG had whitelisted some videos at his request, but he did not believe “Not Like Us” had been whitelisted for creators from the start. He also said the possibility of monetizing videos did not change how they reacted. B. Lou objected to the suggestion that their opinions had been bought; RapTV reported that he released a diss track on January 17, 2025.
No Life Shaq
RapTV reported that No Life Shaq posted a video on the day the suit was filed, expressing disbelief that creators had been included and saying they would have reacted regardless of payment.

According to RapTV, CartierFamily posted a brief reaction on X. The roundup does not describe it in enough detail to characterize the response further.
Kai Cenat
RapTV said Cenat learned about the lawsuit during a stream and initially wondered whether he was being sued. The outlet also reported that Cenat acknowledged his videos had been monetized. That does not establish that UMG paid him or arranged a payment connected to the song.

What the judge decided—and what the ruling did not decide
On October 9, 2025, U.S. District Judge Jeannette A. Vargas granted UMG’s motion to dismiss and closed the district court case. The question, as the opinion framed it, was whether a reasonable listener could understand the lyrics as conveying factual claims about Drake. Judge Vargas concluded that, in the context of a heated rap battle, the song’s tone, profanity, threats, and hyperbolic language would not lead a reasonable listener to treat it as objective factual reporting. The opinion also said the online comments cited in the complaint did not change that analysis.
The judge wrote: “The Court holds, based upon a full consideration of the context in which ‘Not Like Us’ was published, that a reasonable listener could not have concluded that ‘Not Like Us’ was conveying objective facts about Drake.” The ruling was about how a reasonable listener would understand the song in context. It was not a factual determination that every allegation in the lyrics was true, or a finding that Drake’s allegations about UMG’s promotion had occurred. What is the status of Drake’s appeal?
Drake sought to reverse the dismissal. Pitchfork reported on January 22, 2026 that Drake filed an opening appellate brief. Rolling Stone Australia reported on March 28, 2026 that UMG filed a brief opposing his effort and defending the dismissal. Those reports establish that both sides filed briefs; they do not establish a later appellate decision.
