Dragon Ball Super is officially returning with a new anime project titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. The project was announced at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 40th-anniversary event in Japan on January 25, 2026. It follows the anime’s Universe Survival Arc and introduces Planet-Eater Moro as the next major enemy for Goku, Vegeta, and the Galactic Patrol.

“Dragon Ball Super 2” is understandable fan shorthand, but it is not the official title. More importantly, there is still no confirmed premiere date, episode count, broadcaster, streaming service, or international release plan for The Galactic Patrol as of August 11, 2026.

What was officially announced?

The announcement was made during GENKIDASTAGE Part 1 at Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri, a 40th-anniversary celebration held in Japan. The official project name is Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, and the project is officially in production.

According to the official Dragon Ball announcement, the anime takes place after the Universe Survival Arc—the storyline that originally aired from 2015 through 2018. The announcement also identifies Planet-Eater Moro as the new enemy and says that Goku and Vegeta will join forces with the Galactic Patrol.

Why fans are calling it “Dragon Ball Super 2”

Dragon Ball Super 2 is a fan and media label for a continuation of the 2015–2018 Dragon Ball Super television anime. It is not the title announced by Toei, Shueisha, or the official Dragon Ball website.

The safer and more accurate name is Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. “Moro Arc” is also a useful description because Moro is the announced antagonist, and the source material is based on the manga’s Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. However, the project has not officially been titled Dragon Ball Super: Moro, and no official announcement has confirmed exactly how much of the manga will be adapted.

What is the Moro storyline about?

Spoiler-free overview: The Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc begins after the Tournament of Power material. An ancient criminal named Moro escapes from the Galactic Prison during a major prison break. He is known as Planet-Eater Moro because of his ability to consume the energy of worlds.

Goku and Vegeta become involved when Moro’s threat intersects with the Galactic Patrol and New Namek’s Dragon Balls. The arc expands the role of the Galactic Patrol, introduces important new characters such as Merus, and places Goku and Vegeta in a conflict that is different in scale and structure from the Tournament of Power.

The official Dragon Ball retrospective places the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc across manga Volumes 9 through 15. VIZ’s description of Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 10 specifically sets up Moro’s escape, the Galactic Patrol’s involvement, and the race to stop him from reaching New Namek’s Dragon Balls.

If you want to begin the source material without waiting for the anime, Dragon Ball Super manga Vol. 10 is a natural starting point for the central Moro conflict. The arc begins in Volume 9, but Volume 10 is the volume most directly framed around Moro’s escape and the main pursuit.

How far could the new anime adapt?

The confirmed information establishes the Moro connection, but it does not provide an episode count, cour structure, season length, or endpoint. Any prediction about whether the anime will adapt the entire Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc—or continue into the later Granolah storyline—remains speculation.

Manga-based context gives viewers a general idea of the material available. The story includes:

  • Moro’s escape from the Galactic Prison;
  • the Galactic Patrol’s attempt to contain him;
  • Goku and Vegeta’s separate involvement in the crisis;
  • the threat to New Namek and its Dragon Balls;
  • Merus’s role as a Galactic Patrol officer and Goku’s trainer; and
  • the later climax of the Moro conflict.

Those are source-material details, not a confirmed episode guide. The anime could make changes to pacing, ordering, dialogue, or adaptation scope. The announcement does not confirm that Granolah will appear, so reports claiming that both the Moro and Granolah storylines are locked into the project should be treated as unconfirmed.

Is there a release date for The Galactic Patrol?

No official release date has been announced. As of August 11, 2026, the available official materials do not name a premiere day, month, year, broadcaster, streaming platform, episode total, production staff beyond the credited original creator, or international distribution plan.

Some secondary coverage has reported a possible late-2027 arrival. That timing is not stated in the primary announcement and should not be treated as confirmed. Until Toei, the official Dragon Ball site, Fuji TV, or a named international distributor publishes a schedule, “late 2027” is only an unverified report.

This also means there is no reliable basis yet for claiming that the English dub cast, a particular streaming service, or a specific regional release date has been confirmed.

How does Dragon Ball Super: Beerus fit in?

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is a separate project, not the Moro adaptation.

It is officially scheduled to begin on Fuji TV in Japan in fall 2026 and is described as an enhanced edition of earlier Dragon Ball Super material. The project includes new and redrawn cuts, re-rendered footage, new dubbing and sound work, and a reconstructed narrative.

That makes Beerus closer to an enhanced reworking of existing material, while The Galactic Patrol is the new continuation tied to the post-Tournament of Power manga storyline. Confusing the two projects could make it appear that the Moro anime is arriving in fall 2026, but that has not been announced.

Where should you start reading the Moro storyline?

The official retrospective identifies Volumes 9–15 as the span of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. For readers who want the core Moro material in English, the following guide is useful:

Goal Recommended starting point What to expect
Read the arc from its beginning Volume 9 The opening portion of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.
Start with Moro’s main escape and pursuit Dragon Ball Super Vol. 10 Moro’s escape, the Galactic Patrol’s involvement, and the threat to New Namek’s Dragon Balls.
Read through the conclusion Volumes 10–15 The main Moro conflict and its progression toward the final battle.
Read the climax Volume 15 The concluding stage of the Moro conflict, including Goku’s complete Ultra Instinct battle with Moro.

The manga is the only way to read the full Moro storyline before the anime’s release. It should not be treated as an episode-by-episode preview: the eventual adaptation may condense, rearrange, or expand parts of the material.

Spoilers: What happens later in the manga?

Skip this section if you want to experience the story without manga spoilers.

The later part of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc escalates Moro’s abilities and leads to a major battle involving Goku’s complete Ultra Instinct. VIZ’s description of Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 15 places the volume at the climax of Goku’s battle with Moro.

The arc also gives Merus a major role, but revealing his identity, ultimate fate, and the details of Moro’s later transformations would go beyond what has been officially confirmed for the anime. Those events are best treated as manga spoilers rather than announced anime information.

Can you watch Dragon Ball Super before the new project?

Yes. Catching up on the existing anime is useful because The Galactic Patrol follows the Universe Survival Arc. However, catalog availability varies by country and changes over time. Crunchyroll lists the existing Dragon Ball Super series in its catalog in some markets, but that does not confirm that The Galactic Patrol will stream there when it releases.

The best viewing order for the announced continuation is the existing Dragon Ball Super anime through the Universe Survival Arc, followed by the new project when it becomes available in your region. There is currently no confirmed international platform or release date for the sequel anime.

What has not been confirmed?

Several details commonly repeated in early reports remain unresolved:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Premiere date: Not announced.
  • Episode count or cour structure: Not announced.
  • Japanese broadcaster: Not announced for The Galactic Patrol.
  • Streaming service: Not announced.
  • International release plan: Not announced.
  • English dub cast: Not announced.
  • Full production staff: Not announced in the available official materials.
  • Granolah storyline: Not officially confirmed as part of this project.
  • Specific merchandise: No official Moro-specific collectible was identified in the current research.

These missing details are normal for a newly announced production, but they matter when separating confirmed news from speculation. The production announcement confirms the project and its Moro connection—not the full release strategy.

What this means for Dragon Ball fans

The important news is not merely that a “second” Dragon Ball Super anime may exist. The continuation now has an official name, an official production announcement, a defined place in the story, and a named antagonist.

The Galactic Patrol angle also signals a broader supporting cast and setting than the previous anime’s tournament-centered conclusion. Goku and Vegeta are not simply being sent into another tournament: they are becoming involved in a Galactic Patrol crisis centered on a prisoner whose threat extends across entire planets.

For now, fans can safely conclude that the Moro storyline is being prepared for animation. They cannot yet safely conclude when it will air, how long it will run, where it will stream, or whether it will continue into Granolah.
