A stolen plane forces Goku’s group to travel on foot, turning the journey into a chance to reveal how the Demon Realm works. The episode also gives those details a human cost when Gomah’s soldiers demand money or lifespan from villagers. Its trade-off is pacing: much of the hour builds the setting, with the action arriving mainly near the end.
How a stolen plane gives the episode a reason to explore
Goku, Glorio and Supreme Kai wake to find Glorio’s plane stolen by the thugs Goku had humiliated earlier. Glorio decides they will continue on foot. That change could have been a minor inconvenience, but episode 4 uses it to make the Demon Realm’s travel rules matter: the air is dense enough to make sustained flight difficult, so the group cannot simply bypass the landscape with effortless ki-powered travel.

The journey also gives the party a practical stop at a tea shop. The episode introduces medicines suited to the setting, including one with a role comparable to Senzu Beans, as well as a herb said to enable fusion. Giant, rocket-like seeds offer another means of transportation. These details make the realm feel like a place with its own resources and constraints, rather than a backdrop the characters can cross without consequence.
What the journey reveals about life under Gomah
The party changes course to seek the first Dragon Ball and encounters Gomah’s soldiers extorting villagers. The soldiers demand scarce money or a portion of the villagers’ lifespan, making the ruler’s power tangible in the lives of ordinary people. The journey’s lore therefore does more than add curiosities: it leads into a conflict with a clear political and emotional stake.

#1 Best Overall
A young girl intervenes before Goku fights the soldiers. The episode does not name her; the identification as Panzy comes from the following episode’s title. She is presented as brave and inventive, though her creations do not always work as intended. That mix gives the scene a small character beat amid the larger quest.
Why episode 4 can feel like the series’ strongest installment so far
The case for “best episode yet” is about structure more than spectacle. The stolen vehicle creates a reason to walk; walking exposes the group to the Demon Realm’s travel limits and useful supplies; and the encounter with the soldiers shows what Gomah’s rule means beyond the main characters. Each piece builds on the previous one, making the world feel more coherent while advancing the Dragon Ball search.

That approach will not work equally well for every viewer. The episode is less action-oriented than some might want, and the reviewer notes that most of the action is concentrated near the end. Viewers looking for a major fight throughout may find the setup slow; those who enjoy seeing an adventure world acquire rules, customs and stakes have more to appreciate.

Individual comments in the episode discussion reflect that divide, but they are not a measure of overall audience opinion. One commenter wrote, “This entire show feels like an adventure RPG and I’m loving it”. Another said, “I feel like there’s got to be more than 20 episodes planned over the entirety of the story”. The thread also includes the reaction “Best episode yet!” These comments show that some viewers welcomed the adventure focus; they do not establish a consensus or a series-wide ranking.
