Spoiler warning: This review discusses Episode 15’s Third Eye backstory.
“Third Eye” turns a large-scale attack into the backdrop for a compact tragedy: Hybis has unknowingly worn an artifact whose theft helped topple a ruler. The episode’s military action gives the story urgency, while the history of Abura and Dabura lends the Third Eye political weight. In my reading, the lore is more affecting than the battle is fresh, and the shift between them does not always feel balanced.

Gomah’s assault gives “Third Eye” its immediate stakes
After Goku and his companions arrive in the First Demon World, Gomah orders the Gendarmerie to attack. Ground troops and aircraft press the group, and both Goku and Vegeta are hit by gunfire. Goku counters with his Power Pole against an aircraft. The sequence establishes danger and keeps the episode moving, even as its repeated waves of attack can make the action feel more like sustained pressure than a changing tactical contest.
That assault also gives Gomah a reason to inspect Hybis’s belt. He spots an eye ornament there and recognizes it as the legendary Third Eye. The discovery pivots the episode from immediate combat to a story about how power changed hands.

What is the Third Eye?
Episode 15 identifies Hybis’s belt ornament as the Third Eye, also called the Tertian Oculus. Earlier Supreme Demon Kings wore it, and it was said to grant great strength and magical power. Hybis had found the artifact and worn it without understanding what it was.
The Crunchyroll recap recounts that Abura possessed the eye before Dabura arranged for it to be stolen and hidden in the Third Demon World. The thief lost it while escaping. Abura was later usurped by Dabura, and the artifact eventually resurfaced with Hybis. That sequence gives the object more than a convenient power-up function: its history is bound to betrayal, succession, and an accidental rediscovery.

Why Abura and Dabura’s history makes the episode tragic
The backstory’s tragedy lies in the deliberate scheme and its consequences. Dabura’s plan separates Abura from an artifact associated with the office he held; the eye is lost, and Dabura ultimately takes power. Much later, it turns up in the possession of someone who does not recognize its significance. The episode makes the Third Eye feel like a piece of political history that has wandered into the present, rather than a treasure introduced solely to raise the next fight’s stakes.
The story is ambitious in how much it asks this short history to do: explain the artifact, connect it to an old transfer of power, and give Gomah’s discovery a larger implication. The emotional impact is real, though compressed. Abura’s fall is presented as consequential backstory, not explored at length as a character drama, so the episode supplies the outline of a tragedy more than the space to dwell in it.

For me, the episode’s two modes do not fully settle into one another. The attack supplies momentum and visual spectacle; the Third Eye history supplies the episode’s strongest dramatic payoff. But the sustained combat and the explanatory turn compete for attention. The lore is substantial enough to change how the artifact reads, while the battle’s repeated pressure can make the transition feel abrupt rather than cumulative.
That imbalance is also part of the episode’s appeal. “Third Eye” moves from an adventure-style confrontation to an account of political betrayal without pretending those tones are identical. The clash lends the artifact an urgent present, and the history gives the action a consequence beyond survival. The result feels bold in its scope, if imperfect in its pacing.

What Episode 15 sets up—and what it does not resolve
The official Dragon Ball site later promoted Gomah wielding the Evil Third Eye as part of the series’ climax, placing the artifact in the endgame framing. That later promotional material is useful context, but it is separate from what “Third Eye” itself reveals; Episode 15 centers on the artifact’s identity and past, not a complete resolution of its role.
