Dragon Ball DAIMA gives Goku a Super Saiyan 4 transformation in episode 18, bringing a form closely associated with Dragon Ball GT into DAIMA’s story. That is a major continuity echo, but it does not by itself establish that all of GT—or any particular stretch of its plot—is now canon to DAIMA.
What DAIMA reveals in episode 18
Episode 17 ends with Goku reaching Super Saiyan 3 while fighting Third Eye Gomah. In episode 18, after the group’s efforts fail to overcome Gomah, Goku goes further and transforms into Super Saiyan 4. The placement matters: SSJ4 appears as part of DAIMA’s own story, rather than only as a reference or a glimpse of another continuity. But a shared transformation is not the same thing as importing the older series’ entire sequence of events.
How DAIMA’s SSJ4 compares with GT’s
The two versions share the name and broad visual idea of Super Saiyan 4, but DAIMA gives the transformation a distinct look and a different story context, according to Gizmodo’s recap.

Does this make GT canon?
Not conclusively. DAIMA canonizes the appearance of a GT-associated form within DAIMA’s narrative; it does not explicitly declare GT’s events canon. Gizmodo reported that fans were debating whether the reveal retroactively brings parts of GT into continuity, while cautioning that the broader question is unsettled. The distinction is useful: a series can reuse a character, design, transformation, or idea without adopting the earlier story that introduced it. Until an official source specifies how DAIMA and GT fit together, the careful description is that DAIMA brings a new version of SSJ4 into its story—not that it makes all of GT canon.

Why the reveal carries extra weight in DAIMA
Akira Toriyama is credited on DAIMA’s official site for original work, story, and character design. Toei Animation’s October 13, 2023 announcement also described him as closely involved in the series’ production, including its story and designs. That creative connection helps explain why the form’s return feels significant, but neither source sets out a canon policy for DAIMA and GT. DAIMA was announced as a 40th-anniversary series and began airing in October 2024, according to the official site. Its premise turns Goku and his companions small through a conspiracy and sends them to seek answers in the Demon Realm—a setting that provides a different framework for this version of SSJ4.
