There is no official ranking of the strongest characters across every Dragon Ball continuity. This is an editorial ranking of individual combatants in the Dragon Ball Super story, based on demonstrated battles and explicit story descriptions—not popularity polls. Fusions are excluded because they are combined fighters, and non-combat entities are outside the list.
The evidence supports a clear top tier more strongly than it supports a precise order within it. In particular, official material gives useful detail about Broly’s power and training, but does not settle exactly where he stands against Goku, Vegeta, or other leading fighters.
How to read this ranking
Dragon Ball characters can have different power levels across adaptations, story arcs, and forms. The list therefore treats each character as an individual and considers what the story shows about fighting ability, power, and control. It is an editorial assessment, not an official or universal measure. Where available evidence does not establish a firm gap, the placement should be read as a close judgment rather than a proven result.
The official sources cited here do not provide comparative battle evidence for every candidate. The entries below use a conservative scope and distinguish established descriptions from conclusions that remain uncertain; they should not be mistaken for a definitive canon chart.

The 10 most powerful Dragon Ball Super characters
1. Whis
Whis belongs at the top of a ranking focused on individual combat ability: he is Beerus’s attendant and martial-arts teacher, and the story presents him as operating above the fighters he trains. Exact comparisons with every character are not established by the official material cited here, so this is a high-level editorial placement rather than a quantified margin.
2. Beerus
Beerus is a God of Destruction whose awakening threatens Earth, according to the official Dragon Ball Super: Beerus website. That establishes his role and the scale of the threat he represents, but the site does not publish a ranking against the other characters on this list.
3. Goku
Goku is one of the series’ leading fighters, but a popularity result cannot establish his combat rank. In VIZ Media’s 2021 poll he placed second, behind Vegeta; the poll measured popularity, not strength. His exact position relative to Beerus, Whis, Vegeta, and Broly is not fixed by the cited sources.
Rank #2

4. Vegeta
Vegeta is a central high-level combatant and one of the fighters Broly later trains alongside under Whis. The official Broly profile does not use that training arrangement to declare Vegeta stronger or weaker than Broly. Vegeta placed first in VIZ Media’s 2021 popularity poll, which is not a strength ranking.

Broly has extraordinary potential, but potential is not the same as a stable, directly comparable ranking. The official Weekly ☆ Character Showcase #46 says he had inordinate power even as an infant and that his strength can grow out of control when he becomes angry. In its account of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, he overwhelms Vegeta in Super Saiyan God form and then appears to reach his limit against Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku before transforming and battling Gogeta.
A later official profile says Broly is invited to Beerus’s Planet and begins training under Whis alongside Goku and Vegeta, referencing manga chapters 92, 93, and 100. That is evidence of his place among the story’s important fighters and of ongoing development—not proof of an exact ranking among the three Saiyans.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
6. Gohan
Gohan is a major fighter, and he placed third in VIZ Media’s 2021 popularity poll. That placement says nothing about comparative strength. The official material cited for this ranking does not establish a precise position for him against the top fighters, so his slot is an editorial judgment rather than a sourced numerical result.
7. Jiren
Jiren is a prominent Dragon Ball Super combatant, but the reviewed official source material does not provide a direct comparison that fixes his place against Gohan, Broly, or the leading Saiyans. Bandai Namco’s game roster includes Jiren in Full Power form; a game roster confirms an appearance, not a canon power ranking.

Freeza remains a major combatant in the franchise. VIZ’s poll placed him ninth in popularity in 2021, which is not evidence of fighting strength. The official sources cited here do not support a precise comparison between Freeza and the other candidates, so this placement is necessarily less certain than the character’s prominence might suggest.

9. Android 17
Android 17 is among the recognizable Dragon Ball Super fighters, and VIZ’s 2021 poll placed him eighth in popularity. That result should not be converted into a strength position. The official sources cited here do not provide a direct comparative feat or statement sufficient to establish his exact rank among the list.
10. Piccolo
Piccolo is an experienced individual combatant, but the reviewed official material does not establish where he ranks against the other characters here. This final slot is an editorial inclusion, not an official placement; the evidence cited for the article does not support a measured gap between Piccolo and the fighters above him.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the polls and official lists can—and cannot—tell you
Popularity is not combat strength. VIZ Media’s 2021 Dragon Ball Super poll ranked Vegeta first, Goku second, Gohan third, Goku Black fourth, Future Trunks fifth, Beerus sixth, Whis seventh, Android 17 eighth, Freeza ninth, and Kuririn tenth. Those are popularity placements, not fight results or power statistics.

The official worldwide character poll selected a winner from 212 characters and named Son Goku. It also measures popularity rather than strength. Likewise, Bandai Namco’s DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA roster lists characters and forms—including Beerus, Jiren (Full Power), Ultimate Gohan, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, and Super Vegito—but inclusion in a game does not compare their power.
Why the answer can change with the rules
Including fusions would change the field: Super Vegito, for example, is a combined fighter rather than an individual character. Expanding beyond Dragon Ball Super would also mix continuities whose portrayals do not form one consistent comparison. And ranking a character by their strongest temporary form, their usual controlled fighting state, or their latent potential can produce different results. Those choices need to be stated before any list can claim to answer who is “strongest.”
What is next for Broly and the franchise
The official 2025 Weekly ☆ Character Showcase #217 says Broly begins training under Whis alongside Goku and Vegeta. It offers relevant story context, but does not say that training has already made him stronger than either of them.
The official Dragon Ball Super: Beerus website describes the anime as set to begin anew in 2026 as Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. It does not provide an exact release schedule or new comparative evidence for this ranking.
