Oz went to her, and the press pool was ushered out of the Oval Office. The White House later said the minor family member was okay.
What happened at the Oval Office ceremony
The event took place in the Oval Office on April 18, 2025. Trump introduced Oz as the incoming CMS administrator, and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. administered the oath. Oz then made remarks before Trump began taking questions from reporters, according to the official event transcript.
The fainting happened during that reporter exchange, after the oath. The contemporaneous pool report says the girl collapsed while Trump was speaking, and that Oz rushed over to her. She stood up but appeared unsteady, and reporters were directed out of the room. The transcript’s closing note says: “The event ended in order to provide medical care to a participant.”
Was the girl okay?
Yes, according to a White House background statement included in the April 18 pool report archive: “A minor family member fainted during Dr. Oz’s swearing in ceremony in the Oval Office. We are happy to say she is okay.” CBS News also reported at the time that the event was cut short after a family member fainted.

Who was the girl?
The contemporaneous pool report did not identify her. In later coverage, The Independent reported that Oz identified the girl in a public update as his granddaughter Philomena and said she recovered quickly. That identification comes from Oz’s later update as reported by The Independent, not from the pool report or the event transcript.

The reviewed event records and reports do not establish why she fainted or give a diagnosis. They document the collapse, Oz’s response, the press leaving the room, and the White House’s reassurance that the minor family member was okay; they do not support claims about a medical cause.
