Dr. Martens’ limited-edition Nine Inch Nails collection was an anniversary tribute to The Downward Spiral, marking 30 years since the album’s release. The announced lineup comprised three styles: the 1460 eight-eye boot, the 1461 three-eye shoe and the 1490 ten-eye boot. This was a 2024 release, not an upcoming launch; official regional pages now show the collection as sold out or unavailable.
Three styles, three different references
Nine Inch Nails’ official announcement described the collection as three silhouettes made from premium Backhand and Smooth leathers. Each design drew on a distinct part of the band’s visual or live-performance history, rather than repeating the same album graphic across the range.
| Style | Form | Design reference | Announced outsole |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1460 | Eight-eye boot | Russell Mills’ “Wound” artwork; multiple fastenings, including a branded ankle zip | Commando tread |
| 1461 | Three-eye shoe | The album’s “Crystal Teeth” image, with “the downward spiral” in subtle gloss | BEN outsole |
| 1490 | Ten-eye boot | Inspired by Nine Inch Nails’ cornstarch-covered live performances | Ice commando outsole |
The official band announcement also mentioned a 1490 embossed with album artwork that would be gifted to select fans. That was a giveaway detail, not a fourth generally purchasable style.
What the 1461 product page specifies
Dr. Martens’ Canadian product listing identifies the 1461 as style 32173001. Its product-specific details include an artworked vamp, Backhand and Smooth leathers, an NIN-embossed rubber-grain toe cap, black commando tread, yellow welt stitching, and two lace sets: one NIN-branded and one plain black. Dr. Martens describes this shoe as Goodyear welted and lists its fit feedback as “True to size.” These specifications refer to the 1461 listing, not automatically to the 1460 or 1490.
#1 Best Overall
- The 2976 is Dr. Martens rugged take on the classic Chelsea boot. Manufactured since the 70s
- Nappa leather is one of the softest leathers around, pliable and with a natural smooth texture and feels butter-soft to the touch
- As easy to slip on as it is to style
- Retains all the classic Doc's DNA, including grooved sides, heel-loop and yellow stitching
- Built on the iconic Dr. Martens air-cushioned sole, which is oil and fat resistant, with good abrasion and slip resistance
Release timing and current availability
The Nine Inch Nails announcement said the collection would be available from July 19 through Dr. Martens and select retailers. Read as historical release information, this refers to the 2024 anniversary launch. The announcement’s extracted copy does not give a year alongside the date.
Availability varies by region and can change. Dr. Martens’ EU collaboration page reports the collection sold out; the Canadian 1461 page says it is no longer available; and the Korean official listing shows all three styles as sold out. Dr. Martens’ collaboration FAQ says limited-edition collaborations are unlikely to be restocked. These official pages do not establish the status of every retailer or resale listing, so check the specific seller and listing before purchasing.
