What is The Grand Finale about?
The film shifts the story into the 1930s. Focus Features says the Crawleys face the consequences of a public scandal centered on Mary, alongside financial trouble that threatens the family’s position. The upheaval reaches beyond the family: the household’s staff must also navigate a changing social order.

It is the third feature film in the franchise, following Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A New Era. Focus Features dates its theatrical release to September 12, 2025. Focus Features’ film page has the official synopsis and cast listing.
Who returns, and who made the film?
Simon Curtis directed, and series creator Julian Fellowes wrote the screenplay. Gareth Neame, Fellowes, and Liz Trubridge produced the film.

The returning ensemble includes Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter, Elizabeth McGovern, and Penelope Wilton, among many others. The cast listing also includes Simon Russell Beale, Alessandro Nivola, and Arty Froushan.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Fellowes reflected on ending his long association with the franchise: “It is sad,” he said. “It’s been a huge chunk of my life. And when I die, I think it’ll probably be the only job anyone remembers. But I hope it’s been happy.” The Associated Press interview provides the context for the remarks.

Where can you watch it now?
The release dates are historical, not upcoming. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced digital purchase and rental beginning September 30, 2025, followed by Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD on November 11, 2025. NBCUniversal said Peacock streaming began November 7, 2025. That launch announcement does not establish whether the film remains on Peacock in October 2026; check the service’s current catalog and the digital storefronts available in your region.
Universal lists the runtime as 2 hours and 3 minutes. Its home-release announcement describes more than one hour of bonus material for purchases at participating retailers. The listed extras include featurettes on the changing times, the London social season, historical authenticity with advisor Alastair Bruce, and cast farewells, as well as a cast celebration special and commentary by Curtis and McGovern. Bonus availability can vary by retailer and edition, so confirm what is included in the specific listing.

Universal’s announcement also specifies edition-dependent technical and language details. For example, its 4K listing includes HDR10 and English Dolby Atmos for the feature, with English SDH and French Canadian and Latin American Spanish language and subtitle details. The Blu-ray and DVD have their own specification blocks; consult the listing for the exact edition and regional configuration before buying. Which edition or collection should you choose?
Choose the single-film release if you want only the finale. For a franchise catch-up, Universal lists both a three-film set and a complete collection that includes all six television seasons and all three films.

NBCUniversal reported that the film had earned more than $104 million worldwide after its September 12, 2025 theatrical release. The statement does not specify when that milestone was measured, so it should be read as a studio-reported figure, not an independently verified final box-office total. The same NBCUniversal report gave November 7, 2025 as the Peacock streaming start date. NBCUniversal’s announcement contains both claims.
