Google’s computer guidance lists Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge as supported browsers and recommends keeping the browser up to date. If you do not see an installation option, simply continue using this browser-based version.
Method 2: Install the official YouTube Music web app in Chrome
Chrome’s installation option gives YouTube Music its own app-style window. It is still powered by the web service, but you do not have to open a regular browser tab each time.
- Open Google Chrome.
- Visit music.youtube.com.
- Open Chrome’s three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Cast, Save, and Share.
- Choose Install YouTube Music.
- Select Install when Chrome asks you to confirm.
After installation, Chrome creates a launcher for YouTube Music. Depending on your operating system and Chrome settings, you can find it through the Start menu, Applications folder, or another app-launching area. The service can open in its own window, separate from your ordinary Chrome tabs.
If “Install YouTube Music” is missing
First update Chrome and reload the YouTube Music page. The install command can also vary with browser versions, window size, account state, or the page currently loaded. If the YouTube Music-specific command still does not appear, look for Chrome’s general option to Install page as app or use YouTube Music directly in the browser.

Method 3: Install YouTube Music as an app in Microsoft Edge

For those browsers, open music.youtube.com directly and save it as a bookmark or favorite if you want quick access. Keep the browser updated for the best chance of reliable playback and current site compatibility.
How to use YouTube Music on a Mac
The same general answer applies to macOS: use the official web player in a supported browser, or use Chrome’s web-app installation workflow if Chrome offers Install YouTube Music. You do not need a Windows-specific installer, and you should not assume that a third-party Mac application is made or supported by Google.
Installing the app is not the same as downloading music
“Download YouTube Music for PC” can mean two different things:
- Installing the app: Chrome or Edge creates an app-style launcher for the online YouTube Music service.
- Downloading songs: YouTube Music stores supported offline content inside its app experience under the rules of the service and your membership.

Can you download YouTube Music for offline listening on a PC?
Google’s offline documentation focuses on supported downloads within the YouTube Music app and generally requires YouTube Music Premium for music downloads. Optional PC listening equipment
YouTube Music can play through your computer’s existing speakers or headphones, and its web player can cast to compatible speakers, smart displays, televisions, and device groups. Hardware is therefore optional, not part of the installation.

Troubleshooting YouTube Music on a computer
No sound or playback will not start
- Confirm that the computer is not muted and that the correct speakers, headphones, or Bluetooth device is selected.
- Open the operating system’s volume mixer and check that the browser or web app is not muted separately.
- Reload YouTube Music and verify that the intended Google Account is signed in.
- Try a private browser window or temporarily review extensions that block scripts, playback, advertisements, or pop-ups.
- Update the browser and restart it.
The web app will not install
- In Chrome, update the browser, reload music.youtube.com, and check both the YouTube Music-specific menu and the general Install page as app option.
- In Edge, open
edge://appsto check whether the site app was already installed, or remove it and install it again. - If the menu remains unavailable, use the direct browser player. It provides the core access without a launcher.
The computer is generally slow
Check available storage, close unnecessary tabs and applications, update the browser, and review extensions before assuming YouTube Music is the cause.
