Neighbor Sarah Trafford (Ruth Wilson) turns to private investigator Zoë Boehm (Emma Thompson), and their search uncovers a conspiracy involving people believed dead.
What is Down Cemetery Road about?
The story begins after a house explodes in an Oxford suburb and a girl disappears. Sarah Trafford, who lives nearby, wants to know what happened; Zoë Boehm is the private investigator she enlists to help. Their inquiry grows beyond the immediate disappearance into a larger conspiracy. Apple describes the series as a thriller, and its US catalog also classifies it as drama. Apple TV’s series listing provides episode descriptions and cast details.
How many episodes are in Season 1?
Season 1 has eight episodes. Apple announced the original schedule as two episodes on October 29, 2025, followed by weekly Wednesday releases through December 10, 2025. These dates describe the season’s original rollout, not a guarantee of current availability in every country.
Who is in the cast and who made the series?
Emma Thompson plays Zoë Boehm and Ruth Wilson plays Sarah Trafford. The Apple TV US listing also names Adeel Akhtar as Hamza Malik, Tom Riley as Mark Trafford, Tom Goodman-Hill as Gerard Inchon, Aiysha Hart as Paula Inchon, and Adam Godley as Joe Silvermann.

#1 Best Overall
Morwenna Banks is credited as writer and executive producer. Executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Tom Nash, Emma Thompson, and Mick Herron; Natalie Bailey is lead director. Apple’s 2024 announcement called Banks the lead writer. In that announcement, Apple TV+ creative director for Europe Jay Hunt said, “Down Cemetery Road has all the hallmarks of Mick Herron’s funny and acerbic writing, and I’m delighted we will be bringing it to life for Apple TV+ with such a stellar cast.”
Where can you watch it?
Apple TV is the verified streaming destination. The US catalog page lists Season 1, its episodes, and cast, but subscription terms and catalog availability can vary by region and over time. Check the Apple TV listing for your location for current details.

Is the series based on a book?
Yes. The series adapts Mick Herron’s novel Down Cemetery Road, the first book in his Zoë Boehm series. The novel’s publisher, Hachette UK, describes a story that also begins with an Oxford explosion, two adults dead, and a missing girl, prompting Sarah to seek help from Zoë’s investigation agency. The screen adaptation should not be assumed to match every plot detail of the book.
Hachette’s August 2024 catalogue lists a 416-page royal hardback (ISBN 9781399819220) and an ebook (ISBN 9781473646988). Its listed prices—£22 for the hardback and £9.99 for the ebook—were catalogue prices at publication, not current retail prices. Hachette’s book listing has the publisher’s description and edition details.

How does it relate to Slow Horses?
Down Cemetery Road is a separate adaptation of a different Mick Herron novel, not a season of Slow Horses. The two shows share Herron as their source author, and Morwenna Banks also worked on Slow Horses. That connection does not establish shared characters or a shared series continuity.
In a review published by TIME on October 29, 2025, critic Judy Berman praised the character work and frequent plot turns while arguing that the central conspiracy felt oversimplified relative to the scale of the alleged scandal. That is one critic’s assessment, not an aggregate verdict.
