Donald Trump’s Taylor Swift “Hot” Post, Debunked: What the Evidence Shows

Trump’s “no longer HOT” post mixed a subjective judgment with an implied claim about popularity. The available figures challenge a sweeping decline claim but do not prove causation.

Donald Trump’s May 16, 2025 Truth Social post asked whether Taylor Swift was no longer “HOT” because he had said he hated her. “Hot” is a subjective judgment, not a fact that streaming charts can settle. But the implied claim that Swift had stopped being popular is challenged by concrete measures: Axios reported she was Spotify’s most-streamed artist in 2024, with 26.6 billion global streams, and that her Eras Tour was estimated to have grossed more than $2 billion. Those figures do not prove every aspect of her popularity was unchanged—or that Trump’s remark caused any change.

What Trump’s post said

On Friday, May 16, 2025, Trump posted: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” CBS News reported that he made the comment while returning from a Middle East trip; the outlet said it was unclear what prompted it. A White House official told CBS: “As a business and entertainment mogul President Trump is highly qualified to comment on the rise and fall of various celebrities.” CBS News reported the post and its context.

What the evidence can—and cannot—debunk

“Hot” is an opinion, not a measurable popularity ranking

Whether someone is “hot” is subjective. The available reporting offers no objective standard for deciding that question, and commercial success cannot establish attractiveness. The post also implies a different, testable claim: that Swift’s popularity had declined. That can be assessed only by specifying a measure and time period.

Swift’s 2024 streaming and tour figures challenge a sweeping decline claim

In its May 16, 2025 account, Axios reported that Spotify ranked Swift as its most-streamed artist in 2024, with 26.6 billion global streams. It also reported an estimate of more than $2 billion in gross revenue for the Eras Tour, calling it the highest-grossing tour ever; the passage reviewed did not identify the organization behind that estimate. Axios further reported 14 Grammy wins from 58 nominations. Axios’s account gives the streaming, tour and Grammy figures.

These indicators describe different kinds of reach. The Spotify total is a dated measure of listening; the tour estimate reflects ticketed concert success; Grammy totals record awards and nominations. None is a complete measure of public opinion, and none proves that every measure of Swift’s popularity stayed constant after Trump’s comments.

Visibility is not the same thing as popularity

CBS noted that Swift had been less visible in public after the Eras Tour ended and the Kansas City Chiefs’ season concluded. A quieter period in press coverage can affect how often people see someone in the news, but it does not by itself show that their audience or popularity has fallen.

Did Trump’s comment change Swift’s popularity?

The reporting reviewed does not establish a causal link between Trump’s remark and a rise or fall in Swift’s standing. It also does not provide a representative before-and-after survey that would show a specific popularity change attributable to the post. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: Swift had substantial measured listening and concert success, while the available figures do not settle every possible popularity measure or explain what caused a change in one.

Why the post referred back to a false endorsement claim

The dispute had roots in August 2024, when Trump shared images implying Swift wanted people to vote for him and that “Swifties” were joining his campaign. The material included a mixture of AI-generated, altered, real and satirical imagery; it is inaccurate to describe every image as wholly synthetic or to claim Trump personally created them all. The images falsely implied Swift endorsed Trump. iTechGuides describes the mixed origins of the imagery.

In September 2024, Swift endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz—not Trump. In a statement quoted by CBS, she called Harris “a steady-handed, gifted leader” and said she believed “we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.” ABC News Australia later reported that Swift cited the fake images as one reason she chose to state her voting intentions publicly. ABC News Australia recounts Swift’s endorsement and explanation.

Did Swift respond to the May 2025 “HOT” post?

CBS reported that Swift’s representative did not offer a response to Trump’s May 2025 post. The reviewed reporting does not establish a direct public response from Swift to that particular comment.
