In a season-four preview of Doubling Down with the Derricos, Karen and Deon Derrico meet Amani, a young man who believes Deon’s late brother Chris may have been his father. The family welcomes the possibility, but DNA testing is needed to establish whether they are related.
Who is the new family member on Doubling Down with the Derricos?
Amani is the young man at the center of the preview. In a voicemail described by PEOPLE’s season-four preview, republished by Yahoo, he tells Deon, “My name is Amani. Your brother Chris could possibly be my dad.” The claim would make Amani Deon’s nephew, but at this point in the story it is a possibility, not a confirmed relationship.
Why does the family discuss a DNA test?
Deon’s mother, GG, wants a definite answer. The preview quotes her saying, “I need to know, I need to know for sure.” Deon is also mindful of the emotional stakes: he worries about how Amani might feel if testing showed that they were not related. The episode’s tension comes from that uncertainty—whether to pursue the test and what its result could mean for Amani and the family.
What was happening in the family during the season-four preview?
The preview places the meeting within the family’s wider season-four pressures. PEOPLE reported that Karen and Deon were parenting 14 children and living in a crowded home, while GG’s health was also a concern in the season’s story. Deon summed up the family’s size in the preview: “We have 14 children, 4 sets of multiples.” These details describe the 2023 season context, not a current update.

Did a DNA test confirm Amani was related to Deon?
Yes. In a later report, PEOPLE, republished by Yahoo, said a DNA test confirmed Amani was Deon’s nephew. That is a later development than the season-four preview, where the relationship was still uncertain.
What happened to Amani?
The same later report says Deon announced Amani’s death on July 20, 2024. This news came after the 2023 preview and should be understood separately from the on-screen introduction of Amani as a possible relative.
