His dance inspired thousands of imitations; Odell Beckham Jr. helped propel the #DoTheShiggy hashtag, celebrities joined in, and Drake later met Shiggy and featured him in the song’s music video. The story is often called the Kiki Challenge, but it began with a dance—not a moving-car stunt.
Who started the In My Feelings challenge?
Shiggy posted the dance that launched the challenge. In June 2018, after listening to Drake’s newly released album, he danced outside with friends to “In My Feelings” and uploaded the clip. He later told ABC News, “I was outside with some friends and I was, thinking of something to do … then, I heard the song and it just made me want to dance and move.” He said the routine “definitely came from the heart.” ABC News interviewed him about the challenge in December 2018.
Two different contributions are sometimes blurred together: Shiggy made the initiating dance video, while Beckham helped spread the named hashtag movement. Shiggy credited the NFL player after Beckham posted his own video: “Odell Beckham Jr., he threw it up on his page. He started that movement, man.” ABC News reported Shiggy’s remarks in July 2018.
How did a personal dance become a global trend?
Shiggy already had an audience for dance and comedy
The viral clip was a breakthrough, not his first attempt at making videos. ABC News reported that he had been posting dance and other comedy clips through The Shiggy Show for more than two years before the challenge took off.

Beckham and other celebrities widened the reach

What did Drake do after the challenge went viral?
Drake met Shiggy after the dance began spreading, and Shiggy appeared in Drake’s “In My Feelings” music video, alongside dancers performing the viral moves. The song is on Scorpion, the album Shiggy said prompted him to dance. ABC News reported in December 2018 that Drake’s video had passed 165 million YouTube views by then; that, too, is a dated snapshot rather than a current view count.
Was the challenge dangerous?
The original idea was a dance to the song, but some imitations added a hazardous stunt: getting out of a moving car to dance beside it. In August 2018, Shiggy urged people to “stay in a safe area” and said, “you don’t have to get outside your car or do it in a moving car.” CBS News also reported that an Iowa teenager was in intensive care after a failed attempt. That serious incident concerned the dangerous vehicle version; it should not be taken to describe every person who took part. CBS News reported on Shiggy’s warning on August 3, 2018.

What else is documented about Shiggy’s rise?
The strongest record of his rapid rise is concentrated in 2018: the dance’s origin, the way it spread, celebrity participation, Drake’s response, and the safety debate. Paramount+’s listing records Shiggy as the subject of Ridiculousness Season 12, Episode 26, dated December 20, 2018. The Paramount+ episode listing confirms the appearance.
That coverage does not establish a full biography. It does not provide a reliable account of Shiggy’s childhood, education, family, present-day audience size, or current work. The documented story is narrower and more revealing: years of posting dance and comedy videos preceded one spontaneous clip, which gained momentum through imitation, celebrity amplification, and Drake’s recognition.
