Bridget Moynahan said the hardest part was saying goodbye to the people behind the characters: the cast and crew who had built a close-knit family over 14 years. The series has since concluded, with its final episode listed by CBS on December 13, 2024.
What Wahlberg and Moynahan said about the show ending
The actors discussed the farewell during an April 23, 2024 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, as reported by TV Insider. Asked about the series ending, Wahlberg answered, “More upset and sad.”
Moynahan said it felt like saying goodbye to “family,” then clarified that the loss was about the people behind the characters and the relationships formed on set. “I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters,” she said.
She described how the cast and crew had shared major life events over the years: “We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew — most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We’ve been through it all with each other.”

Why CBS ended Blue Bloods
CBS announced on November 20, 2023, that season 14 would be the drama’s last. The network described the show as a police procedural told from the perspective of four generations of a close-knit family. Its main cast included Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez and Vanessa Ray.
Selleck said in the announcement that it had been an honor to work on a series that celebrated New York City’s police officers and the importance of family. That emphasis on family was part of the show’s story, and Moynahan’s comments suggest it also reflected the cast and crew’s experience working together.
