Why the interview became a dispute about X
The interview was intended to be the debut episode of The Don Lemon Show on X. The Associated Press reported that X announced a content partnership in January 2024, but canceled the show’s deal after the interview was recorded. X said it had “decided not to enter into a commercial partnership with the show,” according to AP.
Lemon said in the interview that the plan had always been to distribute the show widely: “But our plan is, and always has been, to release this show everywhere on YouTube, on Spotify, on iHeartRadio, just about any place you stream content.” AP reported that Lemon released the interview on YouTube and X on March 18. The Washington Post also reported at the time that Musk canceled Lemon’s deal to host a new program on X.
