Their most dramatic conflicts on WWE television—including the 2005 custody storyline involving Eddie Guerrero and Dominik’s later turn against Rey—were scripted wrestling stories, not evidence of a real paternity or custody dispute. The distinction matters: the two have also performed together as a father-son tag team, while WWE has used their family relationship as the basis for an on-screen rivalry.
Rey is Dominik’s real father
Dominik is Rey Mysterio’s son in real life, as WWE’s profiles and ESPN’s account of their history identify. Their family relationship is separate from the rivalries WWE has written for them as performers.
The 2005 custody story was scripted
Dominik appeared on WWE television as a child during a 2005 storyline in which Eddie Guerrero claimed to be his biological father and battled Rey over custody. The story culminated in a ladder match at SummerSlam 2005. ESPN describes the conflict as an on-screen storyline: it was not a real paternity dispute or court custody case.
They later became a father-son tag team
Dominik made his in-ring debut at SummerSlam in 2020 against Seth Rollins, according to his WWE biography. As an adult performer, he also teamed with Rey. WWE says they became the first father-son duo to win WWE tag-team titles.

Dominik’s 2022 turn made them rivals on screen
At Clash at the Castle in September 2022, Dominik attacked Rey and joined The Judgment Day. In WWE’s story, Dominik felt overlooked after Rey chose to team with Edge. That is the promotion’s explanation for the character’s actions, not evidence of a private family conflict.
WWE says Rey defeated Dominik at WrestleMania 39 in 2023 and WrestleMania XL in 2024. At WrestleMania XL, Rey and Andrade were billed against Dominik and Santos Escobar, extending the on-screen feud into a faction match. These results describe WWE programming; they do not establish the current state of the pair’s storyline.

Rey has spoken proudly about Dominik’s progress
In a November 2024 conversation with Netflix Tudum, Rey reflected on his son’s growth: “To see him grow in a prosperous way, it’s so satisfying to me as a dad because I’ve always had this idea that if he were to follow in my footsteps, he was going to do something bigger than what his dad did.” Rey’s words offer a father’s perspective on Dominik’s development; they do not describe the private impact of the scripted feud.
