Nintendo has not officially identified Toadette’s white lower-body garment as a diaper. Calling it one is a fan interpretation of her design, not a confirmed fact about the character.
What Nintendo says about Toadette’s outfit
Nintendo’s Play Nintendo character page describes Toadette as “This pink-and-white member of the Toad species gets really pumped up when she’s out to save the day!” It does not identify her white garment as a diaper, shorts, or any other specific type of clothing.
That omission means the garment’s name is unspecified in the cited official description. A diaper-like reading may describe how the design looks to a viewer, but it should not be presented as Nintendo-confirmed canon.
Why character-design comments don’t settle it
In a 2014 interview about Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, producer Koichi Hayashida discussed the Toad characters’ gendered appearances and Nintendo’s lack of a settled design decision about their sex. The discussion is broader character-design context; it does not name Toadette’s garment. GameSpot’s report of the interview and Nintendo Life’s report are secondary coverage of that same interview, not separate evidence about the clothing.

Canon versus visual interpretation
- Established: Nintendo’s character description calls Toadette a pink-and-white member of the Toad species.
- Not established: The cited official description does not say whether her white garment is a diaper or another kind of clothing.
- Interpretation: Describing it as diaper-like is a viewer’s reading of the design, not an official label.
The careful answer is that Nintendo has not specified whether Toadette wears a diaper. Her appearance alone also does not establish anything about her age or biology.
