In the anime’s official terminology, Tanjiro learns Hinokami Kagura. During the Mount Natagumo mission, he recalls his father’s kagura dance and unleashes a technique distinct from Water Breathing. The official synopsis for episode 20, “Pretend Family,” describes that moment as a “whole new technique, completely different from Water Breathing” (official episode 20 synopsis).

Is Hinokami Kagura the same as Sun Breathing?
Spoiler warning for anime-only viewers: later manga material connects the Kamado family’s inherited kagura to Sun Breathing. In that sense, asking whether Tanjiro learns Sun Breathing has a yes answer—but the anime-facing official profiles call the technique Hinokami Kagura, and the story presents it through his family’s dance rather than as a separate style taught by a new instructor.

The connection is clarified in late-series manga material around chapter 192. Shueisha’s official listing identifies volume 22 as containing chapter 192 (Shueisha volume 22 listing); VIZ provides official pages for chapters 192 and 193.
