Usually, no. Spotify Premium Student is designed for students currently enrolled at an eligible U.S. college or university, not for ordinary high-school enrollment. Turning 18 or having a school email address does not substitute for qualifying higher-education enrollment. A high-school student who is formally dual-enrolled at an eligible college may try verification, but approval is not guaranteed.
The short answer
Spotify’s U.S. Premium Student offer is tied to enrollment at a qualifying, Title IV-accredited higher-education institution and an age requirement shown on Spotify’s offer page as above 18. Eligibility is checked through SheerID. A student who attends only high school should not expect to qualify, even if they are 18 or a high-school senior.
The practical rule is:
- High-school-only enrollment: generally not eligible.
- Formal enrollment at an eligible college or university: possibly eligible, subject to SheerID verification.
See Spotify’s current offer and terms at Spotify Premium Student and the Student Tier terms.
Who Spotify counts as a student
For the U.S. plan, “student” does not mean anyone attending any school. Spotify’s terms refer to students at eligible U.S. Title IV-accredited higher-education institutions. The institution must also be supported by Spotify’s verification process.

| Enrollment situation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| High school | Not normally eligible because it is secondary education. |
| Trade or vocational school | May qualify only if the institution meets Spotify’s requirements and appears in SheerID; do not assume every program qualifies. |
| Community college | Potentially eligible if the college is an eligible institution and enrollment can be verified. |
| Four-year college or university | Potentially eligible under the normal Student criteria. |
| Graduate school | Potentially eligible when the institution and enrollment satisfy the same requirements. |
| Online college | Potentially eligible; the school still has to be supported and verifiable. |
| Adult-education course | Not automatically eligible; a short course or continuing-education registration may not meet the higher-education requirement. |
| Dual enrollment | Possible, but Spotify does not expressly guarantee approval for high-school students taking college coursework. |
Spotify’s Premium Student support page explains the school-verification process.
Does being 18, a senior, or having a college email help?
Being 18
No. Age is an additional condition, not a replacement for college enrollment. Turning 18 may satisfy the age requirement, but it does not turn high-school enrollment into higher-education enrollment.
Being a high-school senior
A planned college start, an acceptance letter, or graduation later in the year is not the same as current, verifiable enrollment. Spotify’s process is intended to confirm that you are enrolled now.

Using a college email address
A college email address alone is not enough. Spotify says you do not need to register a student email address to your Spotify account; eligibility is based on enrollment verification. An email may assist with a check, but it cannot replace qualifying enrollment.
What if you are dual-enrolled?
Dual enrollment is the main exception worth testing. You may have a route to Premium Student if all of the following are true:
- The college or university has formally enrolled you, rather than merely hosting a high-school class.
- The institution meets Spotify’s eligibility requirements.
- SheerID can verify the enrollment.
- You meet the applicable age and account conditions.
Spotify’s published wording does not promise that every dual-enrollment student will be accepted. Start the official verification flow and let SheerID decide. If the school is not listed, Spotify says it cannot verify eligibility through that process at that time.

How verification works
- Open the Premium Student signup page.
- Complete the SheerID verification form.
- If prompted, sign in to your college portal or upload proof of current enrollment.
- Wait for SheerID’s confirmation email. Spotify says verification can take several days.
- Return to Spotify and apply the discount to a new or existing account.
- Choose a payment method shown as eligible and finish signup.
If verification fails, check that your legal name and enrollment details match the school’s records, then contact SheerID support. Do not submit inaccurate information repeatedly. A school missing from the list means Spotify cannot verify it through the current flow; it does not by itself prove that you are not academically enrolled.
Price, trial, and payment limits
As listed on Spotify’s U.S. pages in October 2026, Premium Student is advertised as one month free, then $6.99 per month, before applicable taxes. The offer page also lists Hulu access, subject to eligibility and the applicable partner terms. Spotify can change prices, trial terms, or partner benefits.

| Student-plan eligibility | Requires qualifying higher-education enrollment, age requirements, and successful verification. |
| Free introductory month | Separate restriction: Spotify’s introductory terms limit it to qualifying students who are new Premium subscribers. A prior Premium subscription or certain trial use may disqualify the free month even if the Student plan itself is available. |
| Payment method | Payment options vary by location. Mobile or carrier billing cannot be used for Premium Student, and Spotify gift cards and closed-loop prepaid cards are not valid for the Student subscription. Use an eligible method displayed during signup. |

How long the discount lasts
Spotify allows eligible students to receive the discount for up to four years, in an initial 12-month period followed by up to three additional 12-month periods. You must re-verify every 12 months.
If you graduate or leave school, Spotify says you can generally keep the discount until the end of the current 12-month period while the offer remains available. That is not a guaranteed extra year after graduation: at renewal, you must still qualify or the account can move to the applicable full-price Individual plan. Cancelling midway through a period does not reset the clock; reactivation provides only the remaining discounted months.
Spotify’s renewal guidance covers the annual check.

Best alternatives for a high-school listener
| Option | Current U.S. listing (October 2026) | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify Free | No recurring subscription charge | A high-school-only listener who wants Spotify without paying | Advertising and fewer Premium playback controls |
| Premium Family | $21.99/month for up to six members at the same address | A household with several Spotify listeners | Same-address rules; the plan manager controls billing |
| Premium Individual | $12.99/month | One listener who needs an independent paid account | Costs more than the Student price |
| Premium Duo | $18.99/month for two users under household requirements | Two eligible listeners at the same address | Not useful for a single listener and not a student discount |
Prices are Spotify’s listed U.S. comparison figures and can change; taxes may apply. Family and Duo availability depends on the plan’s household rules.
A quick decision guide
- Only in high school: use Spotify Free or ask whether a parent-managed Family plan fits your household.
- 18 but not enrolled in college: age alone does not qualify you.
- Formally dual-enrolled: try SheerID, but treat approval as uncertain.
- Previously used Premium: check Student-plan eligibility separately from free-trial eligibility.
- Paying through a phone or internet provider: cancel that billing arrangement and sign up again with an eligible payment method if you qualify.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: High-school-only enrollment generally does not qualify for Spotify Premium Student. Formal enrollment at an eligible college or university may qualify, including some dual-enrollment situations, but only if SheerID verifies it. Otherwise, choose Spotify Free, a qualifying Family plan, or a regular Individual subscription.
