Not as an ordinary YouTube upload automatically. Restream schedules your uploaded video to air as a live event. YouTube may then archive the livestream on your channel, while a separate recording may be available in Restream storage depending on your plan and recording eligibility. These are different copies in different places.
What happens to the video after a Restream event?
Restream’s Pre-recorded livestream feature broadcasts a selected uploaded video as a scheduled live stream. You can choose a video from Uploads or Recordings, or upload one, then set the event details and destinations. Restream describes this as a live broadcast; it does not promise that the source file is also uploaded to YouTube as a regular, non-live video. Restream’s scheduling instructions and its Upload & Stream explanation distinguish the uploaded source from the event it creates.
After the broadcast, there are two possible places to look for a copy: YouTube’s livestream archive and Restream’s recording storage. Neither should be confused with the original uploaded source file. Keep that local source file if you need a dependable backup; YouTube recommends retaining a local archive.

Restream’s page says prerecorded streaming is available to all users, while upload file-size and storage limits depend on the add-on tier. That does not mean every user can download a recording of a stream: Restream’s separate download guidance says recording downloads require a paid plan. How to schedule a prerecorded YouTube event in Restream
- In Restream, choose Pre-recorded livestream. Select a video from Uploads or Recordings, or upload a file. Restream’s event guide covers this workflow.
- Enter the event title, description, date, and time. Add a thumbnail and create an event post if you want them.
- Enable YouTube as a destination, along with any other channels you intend to use, then create the event. Restream says it airs automatically at the scheduled time.
- If you already made a YouTube event, select it in the YouTube channel settings for the scheduled stream. If YouTube’s auto-start or auto-stop setting is disabled, you may need to start or end the stream manually on YouTube. See Restream’s instructions for an existing YouTube Event.
- After the event, look in YouTube Studio under Content > Live for a channel archive. Separately check Restream Video Storage or stream history for a Restream recording. A file appearing in one location does not establish that it exists in the other.
Limits and file requirements to check before scheduling
YouTube archive duration
YouTube’s current Help Center guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, says streams shorter than 12 hours can be archived automatically; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Treat the archive as a useful replay path, not your only backup for a long event. YouTube: Archive live streams.
Restream recording retention and session length
Restream’s July 1, 2026 recording-download page lists 15 days of retention on Standard and Professional plans and 30 days on Business. It lists recording sessions of up to 6 hours on Standard and up to 10 hours on Professional and Business. These figures concern Restream recordings, not YouTube’s archive. Confirm the current plan terms for your account in Restream’s recording guidance.

Prerecorded file format
Restream lists MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV containers, H.264 video, AAC audio, and a keyframe interval of 2 as mandatory for prerecorded videos. It recommends Full HD 1080p at 30 or 60 FPS and adding 15–20 seconds at the beginning and end so destination platforms have time to process the incoming stream. The extra footage is a recommendation, not a guaranteed fix for every platform delay. See Restream’s prerecorded-video requirements.
YouTube channel setup
Livestreaming must be enabled on the YouTube channel. Restream’s YouTube setup page says phone verification and a 24-hour wait are required before first streaming, and the channel owner must authorize the Restream connection. Check Restream’s YouTube setup instructions before the event if the channel has not streamed before.

How to troubleshoot a missing replay or recording
- No replay in YouTube Studio: Check Content > Live after the event. Confirm the broadcast ended and allow time for processing. If it ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns it may not have captured the archive; use your local source or backup instead.
- No downloadable recording in Restream: Check the account’s plan and recording eligibility. Restream’s July 2026 guidance says downloading recordings requires a paid plan, and retention windows are limited. Look in Video Storage, past streams, or the Studio/RTMP interface as applicable. Restream’s “Where is my recording?” page explains the locations.
- The prerecorded file is rejected or fails to play correctly: Check the container, H.264 video, AAC audio, and keyframe interval against Restream’s requirements. If the file meets those requirements but the destination still has trouble processing it, Restream recommends 15–20 seconds of extra material at the start and end.
- The scheduled event does not start or stop as expected: Verify the correct YouTube event is selected and check whether YouTube auto-start and auto-stop are enabled. If disabled, start or end the stream manually in YouTube.
- Restream cannot connect to the channel: Confirm livestreaming is enabled, complete phone verification and the stated first-stream wait if required, and authorize the connection as the channel owner.
