DC does confirm the issue’s publication details and that its synopsis centers on Batman and Bane.
Which Absolute Batman issue is the claim about?
The headline appears to refer to Absolute Batman #12, based on a search-result copy of secondary coverage. That is a likely identification, not confirmation of the redesign’s details. DC’s official issue listing gives the comic’s bibliographic information and synopsis, but does not name Penguin.

What does DC confirm about the story?
DC’s synopsis describes Batman at Bane’s mercy. It does not mention Penguin, a redesign, or a transformation. The issue metadata and synopsis therefore confirm that #12 is the likely comic at issue, but they do not verify the headline’s Penguin-specific claim.
What is known about the Penguin redesign?
The available support for the connection is a search-result copy of secondary coverage. It is not enough to establish the character’s exact appearance, the scene’s context, or whether any apparent change is literal, temporary, or a visual effect. Descriptions of specific facial features, clothing, colors, or a cause for a transformation should not be treated as confirmed without checking the comic or an authorized preview.

To assess the design directly, separate what is visible on the page from what it might mean: note the silhouette and proportions, facial and body features, clothing and accessories, then consider how those details relate to the scene. That distinction matters especially when a striking image could be stylized, temporary, or symbolic.
How does this fit the Absolute Batman approach?
DC’s creator interview published September 6, 2024 presents the series as a reinterpretation rather than a straightforward continuation of the main-universe Batman. Scott Snyder said, “This Batman comes up in Crime Alley. He knows the villains in a different way. And instead of being system and order and the way Batman is in the main universe, this Batman is chaos and anarchy.” That describes the broader premise; it does not explain a particular Penguin design in issue #12.

Artist Nick Dragotta described varying the pacing of the art: “when scenes are pedestrian, I really want to slow it down a bit. And then as emotion or action ramps up, we’re going to go a little more hyper and more dynamic.” This gives general context for the series’ visual approach, not evidence of what Penguin looks like in this issue.

DC’s issue page is the primary source for the release details and official synopsis. Readers who want to confirm the character and image should consult Absolute Batman #12 itself or an authorized preview. DC’s Absolute Batman Vol. 1: The Zoo collects issues #1–6, so it does not include #12.
