In a January 20, 2026 Xbox Wire article, Senior Brand Manager Andrew James says Reunion lets players confirm whether Chloe lived or died in Arcadia Bay, whether she and Max were friends or lovers, and how their relationship develops. Double Exposure is the earlier Max-led mystery about the murder of her friend Safi and two parallel timelines.
Where the Chloe and Max relationship choice appears
James’s Xbox Wire article about Life Is Strange: Reunion describes choices that establish Chloe and Max’s past and shape their future together. He writes: “Whether Chloe lived or died in Arcadia Bay, and whether she and Max were friends or lovers — these choices are key not just to the past you’ll confirm as you play, but to the future you’ll fight for the chance to build.”
That statement is specifically about Reunion. It does not establish that Double Exposure contains a choice about Chloe and Max’s relationship. The official Square Enix description of Double Exposure and its store listing discuss decisions affecting timelines and Caledon, but do not identify Chloe and Max’s relationship as one of those decisions.
What Double Exposure is about
Double Exposure follows Max Caulfield as she investigates the death of Safi, her friend. Max discovers a parallel timeline in which Safi is alive but still in danger, and her power lets her shift between the two timelines. Square Enix frames the premise as “Two Timelines. One Impossible Mystery.”

The game is a narrative adventure developed by Deck Nine Games and published by Square Enix. Its story centers on Max’s investigation and the consequences of navigating the parallel timelines—not the Chloe-and-Max relationship choice described for Reunion.
How the games connect
Double Exposure provides story context for Reunion: James connects Chloe’s return in Reunion to Max’s ability to shift between parallel timelines. That link makes Max’s power relevant to the later game’s setup, but it does not move the relationship decision into Double Exposure.
