Yes. Jack Black plays Steve in A Minecraft Movie, the live-action adaptation of Minecraft. Mojang’s official first-look announcement identifies him as “Steve (Black),” and the film’s official website also names Black in the role. What remains unverified is whether a particular leak revealed that casting first: the available sources do not identify a specific leak or establish its provenance.
Jack Black’s role as Steve is officially confirmed
Mojang’s official first-look article describes Steve as an “unexpected, expert crafter” and identifies the character as “Steve (Black).” The official film website likewise lists Steve as played by Black and describes the film as a live-action adaptation of Minecraft. These official sources settle the casting question, regardless of how the claim first circulated.
What the earlier report said—and when
On January 3, 2024, Game Informer reported that Black had joined the film and that Steve was reported to be his role. At that point, the publication said the role had not been confirmed by Black or the production companies. Mojang’s later announcement supplied that confirmation, so the earlier uncertainty should be understood as historical, not current.
Was the casting revealed by a leak?
The role is confirmed; the leak claim is not. The available sources do not identify a verifiable leaked document, image, or post, show who published one first, or establish that a leak disclosed Black’s role before it was reported elsewhere. It is therefore accurate to say that reports connected Black with Steve before official confirmation, but not to credit a specific leak with revealing the casting.
