But the design intent is not proof that every match feels comfortable on every phone. In the 2025 closed beta, players reported concerns about text and button size and visibility during battle.
What you do in a match
Square Enix describes Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy as a 3v3 Team Boss Battle Arena. Players hunt monsters near a crystal to purify it and build Bravery. At maximum Bravery, they unleash a Bravery Burst to damage the boss, then use abilities to defeat it faster than the opposing team. That gives mobile play a straightforward central goal: contribute to a team race rather than navigate a sprawling set of match objectives. Can you play with one hand?
That is an explicit part of the design pitch, not an assumption based only on the game being for phones. In its October 14, 2025 announcement, Square Enix said the game would have “simple controls that let you play with just one hand.” The announcement supports the intended control style; it does not establish that the layout is equally comfortable for every hand size, device, or player. The roster’s four roles—Melee, Ranged, Agile, and Support—give characters different frontline, distance, mobility, and ally-support functions. The official system page also describes character abilities and customization, including outfits, stat-boosting Memorias, and music tracks. These distinctions may shape what players do in a match, but the published material does not provide a device-by-device usability assessment.

What the closed beta revealed about usability
Square Enix’s closed beta ran November 7–14, 2025, with 40,000 testers across Japan, the United States, and Canada. The company cautioned that its published results came from survey respondents and might not represent all testers. Among respondents, 64% said they were satisfied with the user interface, while 36% commented on text or button size and visibility during battle. Those findings suggest that a deliberately simple control concept still depended on readable, well-positioned on-screen information. Square Enix’s beta survey report provides the figures and qualification.
The report described planned adjustments in response to feedback: changes to text and tappable areas, an option to keep teammates’ Bravery and HP information in fixed UI positions, and tap-and-hold ability activation alongside flick activation. These were plans reported after the beta, not a fresh measurement of the current live version. The same report said that 83% of respondents with mobile competitive-game experience and 75% without that experience wanted to install and play at release; these are beta survey responses, not estimates of wider player demand.

Touchscreen or controller?
Touch is the intended mobile path, and the one-handed control statement makes it reasonable to try the game without buying extra hardware. Square Enix’s beta report said controller support was absent during testing and planned for release, while warning that compatibility with all controllers could not be guaranteed. The cited information does not confirm support for any particular controller model in the current version.
If physical input is your preference, treat a Bluetooth mobile game controller as an optional accessory, not a requirement. Before buying or relying on one, verify compatibility with the game’s current version, your phone and operating system, and the controller itself. The cited beta report does not establish a model-specific compatibility list.

Availability and purchases
Square Enix Japan announced that official service began in Japan on March 24, 2026, for iOS and Android, with basic play free and item purchases. The official English game page currently labels the title “Available Now” and links to the App Store and Google Play, but that does not establish availability in every country. Check your local store listing for access in your region. Square Enix Japan’s release notice records the Japanese service start; the official English game page lists the mobile platforms.
Square Enix states that in-app purchases include randomized virtual items. The cited official information does not establish current prices or purchase odds, so check the in-game disclosures and your local store listing before spending.

So, does it work well on mobile?
The strongest supported answer is that mobile play is central to the design: Square Enix explicitly described one-handed controls, and the battle has a clear team objective. The beta feedback also shows why intent alone is not enough to judge comfort: respondents raised text, button, and in-battle visibility concerns, prompting planned UI and control adjustments. The available evidence does not establish current performance, battery life, or comfort on a particular device. For a prospective player, the practical questions are whether the live interface is legible on your screen and whether touch controls—or a verified compatible controller—suit your preference.
