Captain America: Brave New World points toward a new Avengers era, but it does not assemble the team. In the film’s final scene, Sam Wilson tells Joaquin Torres he plans to reform the Avengers. “Avengers 2.0” is a useful description of that direction—not an official team name or a roster already in place.
What does the film actually establish?
Marvel’s official Captain America: Brave New World page identifies Sam Wilson as Captain America. The film, directed by Julius Onah and released February 14, 2025, puts Sam in an international incident after he meets newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross.
The distinction between intention and action matters: according to TechRadar’s February 14, 2025 ending explainer, Sam says he intends to reform the Avengers in the final scene. He does not recruit a team or show a new Avengers roster. The movie therefore begins a story about rebuilding the group rather than completing that rebuild.
Is “Avengers 2.0” an official Marvel name?
No. The phrase is an editorial shorthand for a possible new direction under Sam’s leadership. Neither the ending account nor Marvel’s official film page establishes “Avengers 2.0” as the name of a team. It is more accurate to say that Sam signals an intention to bring the Avengers back together.

How does The New Avengers fit in?
Marvel’s official The New Avengers page—for the film first released as Thunderbolts*—describes a separate, unconventional team featuring Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. The film was released May 2, 2025.
That later team provides context for the MCU’s evolving team stories, but it is not the roster Sam forms at the end of Brave New World. The two threads should not be treated as one confirmed Avengers lineup.

What did Anthony Mackie say about the next Avengers films?
In a January 30, 2025 Esquire interview, Mackie said of the planned Avengers movies: “What you don’t want is Infinity War and Endgame 2.0.” That is the actor’s view of the films ahead, not confirmation of Brave New World’s plot or the name of Sam’s prospective team.
