Its slate spans speculative workplace drama, space opera, alternate history, and serialized mysteries, with several series carrying strong Rotten Tomatoes scores. Netflix and other services have serious contenders too. The answer depends on whether you value a focused run of originals or a larger, broader catalog.
What makes Apple TV+ a sci-fi destination
Apple’s US science-fiction category features series including For All Mankind, Foundation, Invasion, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Pluribus, alongside adjacent and hybrid titles. That is evidence of a recognizable genre slate, not proof of worldwide availability or a complete count of everything on the service. Catalogs vary by territory and can change.
The most persuasive case is density: several distinct, prominent dramas sit alongside one another rather than the service relying on a single breakout hit. Apple’s science-fiction slate includes alternate history, galaxy-spanning conflict, alien invasion, dystopian mystery, and speculative stories about work and identity.

Rotten Tomatoes’ Apple sci-fi page showed these critic and audience scores in October 2026. They are a dated snapshot of the aggregator’s scores, not permanent or definitive measures of quality.

Rotten Tomatoes’ October 2026 Apple sci-fi listing supplies these figures. Scores can change as reviews and audience ratings accumulate; they also reflect an aggregator’s scoring system rather than a shared, controlled comparison of every streamer’s catalog.
Strong alternatives exist on other streamers
The claim that Apple has the best slate is an argument, not a settled ranking. Netflix, for example, highlights 3 Body Problem as a science-fiction series in its official title listing. Its May 2026 genre guide also promotes Black Mirror, Dark, Lost in Space, Alice in Borderland, and Bodies. That establishes meaningful competition, though Netflix’s own selection is not independent evidence that its choices are the genre’s best.

A separate Rotten Tomatoes browse page showed other services’ titles with strong scores in August 2026: Fallout at 94% critic and 96% audience, Stranger Things at 90% and 82%, 3 Body Problem at 79% and 76%, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds at 92% and 64%. These figures come from a different page and date than Apple’s October snapshot, so they should not be treated as a controlled, side-by-side ranking. Rotten Tomatoes’ August 2026 multi-service listing nonetheless makes clear that Apple is not without rivals.
Apple may have a higher concentration of notable original sci-fi dramas; larger rivals can compete on sheer library breadth. TechRadar’s 2026 comparison describes Apple TV as a science-fiction destination while noting its library is smaller than those of larger competitors. As catalogs shift, a “best” verdict also depends on territory and what is currently available.

What to watch first on Apple TV+
- Severance — A speculative workplace mystery and one of the strongest-rated Apple titles in the October 2026 snapshot.
- For All Mankind — An alternate-history space drama, rated 91% with critics and 75% with audiences in that snapshot.
- Silo — A serialized dystopian mystery based on Hugh Howey’s trilogy. Apple’s press page lists July 9, 2027 as the season-four release date; schedules can change.
- Foundation — A large-scale adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s stories. Apple’s December 2023 announcement described season two as 100% Certified Fresh at the time; that historical score is not its current rating. Apple TV Press, December 2023.
- Murderbot — A science-fiction series with a 95% critic score and 82% audience score in the October 2026 snapshot.
- Dark Matter — A serialized science-fiction mystery that scored 83% with critics and 74% with audiences in the same snapshot.
If Silo is the one that hooks you, Apple identifies it as based on Hugh Howey’s trilogy; the books offer a separate way to continue with that story. Check the edition and regional availability before buying.

If “best” means a concentrated slate of well-reviewed original dramas with a range of science-fiction modes, Apple TV+ has a credible claim. If it means the largest selection, a single all-time favorite, or the strongest catalog across every licensed title, the answer may be different. The available ratings do not establish an objective winner, and comparisons become less reliable when scores come from different dates and filters.

For viewers deciding whether Apple TV+ is worth watching for science fiction, the practical case is its cluster of distinct, established series—not a claim that other services lack worthwhile shows. Check the catalog in your region before subscribing, because the cited Apple genre page is US-specific and streaming availability can change.
