Season 9 gives Bobby Nash a memorial and puts Athena’s life without him on the episode guide’s agenda. Those are concrete signs that the show is honoring his absence. But ABC’s official descriptions do not call the storyline an apology or suggest that the series is reversing its decision to kill Bobby. “Making amends” is an interpretation, not a confirmed description of the season.
How does Season 9 honor Bobby Nash?
The 118 dedicates the firehouse
ABC Press describes the Season 9 premiere, “Eat the Rich,” as an episode in which the 118 comes together to dedicate the firehouse in Bobby’s memory, honoring his sacrifice. The synopsis establishes a public memorial within the story; it does not spell out the full ceremony or how each character responds. ABC’s Season 9 episode guide and ABC Press’s episode listings provide the official descriptions.

Athena’s grief gets specific attention
The episode guide identifies “Reentry” as Season 9, Episode 4, and says Athena must confront what it means to live without Bobby. ABC Press gives the same central description. That makes Athena’s bereavement an explicit part of the season’s story, rather than an inference drawn only from the firehouse dedication. The brief synopses do not reveal how the episode develops that struggle or resolve it.
Does that mean ABC is making amends for Bobby’s death?
Not in any confirmed, literal sense. The official descriptions support two claims: the 118 memorializes Bobby, and Athena faces the reality of his absence. They do not describe the storyline as an apology, say that ABC regrets the character’s death, or indicate that Bobby will return. Calling this “making amends” is a viewer’s interpretation of the show giving his loss continued weight.

The distinction matters because a memorial can honor a character without undoing the choice that led to his death. Peter Krause, who played Bobby, described his final choice to Good Morning America this way: “He was willing to sacrifice himself so that others could see another day.” That is Krause’s characterization of Bobby’s sacrifice, not an explanation from the showrunner of why the writers chose to kill him.
What the season’s official descriptions do—and don’t—tell viewers
- Established: Bobby is treated as deceased in the Season 9 premiere description, and the 118 dedicates the firehouse in his memory.
- Established: “Reentry” centers, at least in part, on Athena confronting life without Bobby.
- Not established by these summaries: that ABC or the show’s creative team has called the arc an apology, or that the memorial storyline reverses Bobby’s death.
Episode descriptions are brief guides, not full accounts of scenes or their emotional effect. They confirm the memorial and grief themes, but viewers will need to watch the episodes to judge how fully the series explores them.
