What movies is Doctor Doom in?
Doom appears in four released Fantastic Four films through 2025, though his role in The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a mid-credits cameo rather than a full-film performance. He also appears in the completed but officially unreleased The Fantastic Four (1994), which is best treated as a historical curiosity, not a standard movie recommendation.
The ranking below considers character fidelity, performance, visual design, story importance, and whether the story gives Doom a coherent motive. The 2005 and 2007 films share Julian McMahon’s connected incarnation, but are ranked separately because they are separate films. McMahon’s Doom is the central antagonist and has the most room among the released live-action films to function as a personal rival to Reed Richards. The film gives him a corporate identity and a direct stake in the story, although it emphasizes a powerful industrialist more than the sovereign ruler and political strategist familiar from the comics. It is the strongest starting point for a feature-length live-action Doom performance in this set.

2. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) — Julian McMahon
The sequel continues the same incarnation, now operating amid a larger cosmic threat. Doom’s shifting alliances give him room to be calculating, but the story’s attention is divided among the team and the Silver Surfer. It is worth viewing as the next chapter of McMahon’s portrayal, not as a separate reinvention of the character.

3. Animated Fantastic Four series — series-level appearances
Animation has repeatedly adapted Doom as a Fantastic Four antagonist, a format well suited to his armor, theatrical presence, and elaborate schemes. Disney+’s official Fantastic Four catalog page lists the 1994 series and the episode “The Mask of Doom (Part 3).” This is a useful series-level entry, not a claim that the episode is his only appearance or that every television credit has been verified.

4. Fantastic Four (2015) — Toby Kebbell
Kebbell plays Doom in the reboot, which takes a darker, more science-fiction-oriented approach to the team’s origin. Doom is positioned as a threat, but the film gives less space to the character’s distinctive combination of intellectual confidence, political authority, and theatrical self-regard. The result is more an antagonist shaped by the reboot’s tone than a fully developed screen portrait of the monarch.

5. The Super Hero Squad Show — animated series appearances
This comedy-oriented animated series uses Doom in a lighter, more exaggerated register than the Fantastic Four adaptations. That shift makes it a different kind of appearance rather than a direct competitor to a dramatic feature performance. Doom also appears in animated Marvel productions including The Marvel Super Heroes (1966), Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and Spider-Man: The Animated Series. 7. The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) — Robert Downey Jr. cameo
Downey appears as Victor von Doom in a brief mid-credits scene. For that reason, its placement at the end of a performance ranking reflects limited screen time, not a verdict on what a longer portrayal might be.

Was the 1994 Fantastic Four movie ever released?
No. The Roger Corman-produced The Fantastic Four was completed, and Joseph Culp played Victor von Doom, but the film was never officially released. It belongs in a screen-history guide because it was made, but its status makes it impossible to assess like a widely released movie. Treat it as an unreleased curiosity, not a recommendation alongside the theatrical films.
Does Doctor Doom appear in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
Yes. Robert Downey Jr. appears as Doctor Doom in the film’s mid-credits scene. It is a brief cameo, not an extended performance.
