Doc season 1, episode 7, “Secrets and Lies” (DOC-107), aired on FOX on February 18, 2025. It is most compelling when it puts Sonya Maitra in the difficult position of treating a man from her past while relying on Amy, the colleague she resents. Spoilers ahead for Sonya’s storyline.
What happens in “Secrets and Lies”?
FOX’s official synopsis sets up three threads: Sonya wrestles with treating a man from her past and turns to Amy for help; Richard deals with a family situation; and Jake and TJ debate the moral implications of a diagnosis. Apple TV lists the episode at 41 minutes, rates it TV-14, and gives it a U.S. region of origin, with advisories for language, violence, sexual content, and suggestive dialogue.
Spoilers: Why does Sonya dislike Amy, and what changes?
The episode identifies Ravi as the man who raped Sonya, making her need to treat him more than a difficult professional assignment. It brings her trauma into the hospital and forces her to work alongside Amy despite the strain between them. In a TV Insider interview, Anya Banerjee, who plays Sonya, explained that viewers would get “a little bit of insight as to why” Sonya dislikes Amy. The episode’s turn is not simply that Sonya accepts help: she has to tolerate vulnerability with someone she has kept at a distance.
That conflict gives “Secrets and Lies” its clearest emotional stakes. Sonya’s clinical responsibility and personal history collide, while Amy’s assistance creates a consequential test of trust. The episode connects the two women’s fraught dynamic to Sonya’s past without making the relationship suddenly uncomplicated. The shift feels like an opening in their conflict rather than a complete resolution, which makes the change more credible than an instant reconciliation.

How do the other stories balance the episode?
Richard’s family situation and the Jake–TJ disagreement over diagnosis ethics broaden the hour beyond Sonya’s personal crisis. The official synopsis establishes those premises but does not specify their details, so the episode’s strongest documented contrast is in their function: Sonya’s story is intimate and trauma-centered, while the other threads bring family pressure and professional ethics into the medical-drama frame.
That range gives the episode a useful thematic counterweight, though the emotional focus rests with Sonya. Her dilemma makes the idea of care personal: treating someone is not the same as being unaffected by what they have done. The diagnosis debate, in turn, places moral judgment within clinical work. Together, the threads keep the hour connected to the hospital setting even as its central tension is about trust and history.

Is “Secrets and Lies” worth watching?
Yes, especially for viewers following Sonya and Amy’s uneasy relationship. The episode’s most affecting development is measured rather than tidy: Sonya relies on Amy under pressure, and that dependence gives their conflict new context without pretending it has disappeared. A Rotten Tomatoes listing records CBR critic Brittany Frederick’s review as 7/10, dated February 20, 2025; its excerpt describes the episode as reframing two antagonists. That is one critic’s assessment, not a consensus score.
