The family’s scandals and public religious history are documented, but they do not establish a change in anyone’s current church attendance. The adult children have separate households, and available reports do not provide a comprehensive picture of where each person worships.
What is known about Jim Bob and Michelle’s church attendance?
The Duggar family’s official FAQ describes Jim Bob and Michelle’s Christian beliefs and recounts Jim Bob meeting Michelle through church visitation. That is the family’s own account of its beliefs and history, not a current disclosure of where or how often they attend services. Read the Duggar family FAQ.
A recent Us Weekly report distinguishes the church attended by Paul Caldwell from the church Jim Bob and Michelle attend. The distinction is attributed to an unnamed source; the report does not say that Jim Bob and Michelle stopped attending. It also discusses allegations concerning Joseph Duggar, which should not be treated as adjudicated facts. Read Us Weekly’s report.
Does the family’s scandal history show that it left church?
No. The scandals and criminal case involving family members do not, by themselves, establish a change in church attendance. TIME’s 2023 explainer covers the family’s association with the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), controversies involving the family and organization, and Josh Duggar’s 2021 conviction. It provides historical context, not evidence of a family-wide decision to leave church. Read TIME’s explainer.

TIME reports that 19 Kids and Counting, which followed Jim Bob, Michelle, and their 19 children, ran for ten seasons from 2008 to 2015 and was canceled after the 2015 scandal. These events explain why the family’s religious background remains part of public discussion; they do not answer where individual family members worship now.
What can be said about the adult Duggar children?
The adult children have their own households, and the available reporting does not offer a current, comprehensive account of each person’s church attendance. A report about Jim Bob and Michelle, Paul Caldwell, or one adult child cannot be generalized to every Duggar household.
E! News described Jill Duggar’s memoir Counting the Cost as addressing her upbringing, a dispute with Jim Bob over compensation from the television show, and the aftermath of Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal. That account offers context about Jill’s family experience, but it does not establish her current church attendance or a broader family decision. Read E!’s report.

TIME’s explainer discusses Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets and its examination of the Duggar family’s connection to IBLP. TIME also quotes Jill Duggar reflecting on her 2015 interview: “In hindsight I wouldn’t have done the Megyn Kelly stuff. I felt like I was in a place of like burying the burden and the weight.” That comment concerns the interview and its emotional burden, not whether she or other family members attend church. What remains unverified
- There is no verified family-wide announcement that the Duggars have stopped attending church.
- The official FAQ describes the family’s stated beliefs and history, but does not confirm current attendance.
- The available reporting does not establish a complete, current account of church attendance for Jim Bob and Michelle or every adult child.
- An unnamed-source description of which church a couple attends is not the same as a direct statement from that couple.
