Riza Marie Simpson was reportedly arrested in Atlanta on January 16, 2026, after Djimon Hounsou told police that she struck him during a December 2025 dispute. The reported misdemeanor charge is an accusation, not a conviction, and the available reports do not establish the criminal case’s final outcome.
What was reported about the arrest
Us Weekly reported that Simpson was booked into the Atlanta City Detention Center on January 16 on a misdemeanor charge recorded as “battery — family violence,” first offense. The outlet said the charge stemmed from an alleged incident in December 2025. Us Weekly’s report also described disorderly conduct and obstruction in connection with the arrest, citing TMZ; those descriptions should not be treated as a single confirmed account of the operative charges.
According to police-report details recounted by Us Weekly and Entertainment Weekly in a story republished by Yahoo News, Hounsou told police Simpson hit his face after an argument about her leaving a home. That is Hounsou’s reported account, not an independently established finding. Yahoo News’ republished report attributes its account to the police report.
What Simpson later alleged
TMZ reported on January 27 that Simpson sought a protective order and alleged that she had been wrongfully arrested, subjected to financial abuse, and faced an attempted illegal eviction. TMZ said a judge granted a temporary protective order pending a later hearing. Those are Simpson’s allegations and a reported temporary order; they do not establish what happened during the disputed events or resolve the criminal allegation. TMZ’s report on the temporary order

What is and is not established
Hounsou and Simpson share two children, and later reports describe custody disputes. The reporting cited here does not establish the children’s experiences, and there is no need to speculate about them.
The accounts describe competing allegations: Hounsou’s account, as reported from the police report, and Simpson’s later claims in seeking protection. The reviewed reports do not provide a confirmed final outcome in the criminal case or the current status of the later proceedings. They are entertainment-news accounts of events and filings, not a complete court docket. An arrest, a charge, a temporary order, and a party’s request are distinct from a final judicial finding.
