Disney+ Error Code 73: What It Means and How to Fix It

Error 73 means Disney+ thinks your location is unsupported or your connection is anonymized. Use these steps to test VPN, device, Wi-Fi, and IP-location causes.

Disney+ Error Code 73 means the service believes it cannot provide access from your current location. Disney identifies two main causes: you are in a country or region where Disney+ is unavailable, or your connection appears to use a VPN or another IP-anonymizing service. If you are in a supported region without those tools enabled, use the network tests below to distinguish a device problem from a location or IP-detection issue.

What Disney+ Error Code 73 means

Disney’s support page gives the message as “This content isn’t available to watch in your current location.” The wording may vary by device or language, but the issue is location-related: Disney+ either considers your region unsupported or detects a VPN, proxy, IP anonymizer, or similar routing method. See Disney’s Error 73 guidance.

That does not necessarily mean your account is at fault. A subscription does not guarantee that the service is available in every country or that a connection will be classified correctly. Availability can vary by country and change over time, so check Disney’s current regional guidance rather than relying on a static country list.

Error 73 is not primarily a password, stream-limit, or general internet error. Disney lists those separately: Error 14 concerns a password, Error 75 a streaming-device limit, and Error 42 an internet connection problem. The Disney+ error-code index lists these alongside Error 73.

Try these fixes first

Start with the steps that address Disney’s stated causes. If you are outside a supported region, restarting an app or router will not make Disney+ available there.

  1. Turn off VPN and IP-anonymizing services. Disconnect consumer or corporate VPNs, work or school tunnels, and any privacy-routing feature. Check the router too: a VPN there can affect every connected device even when no VPN app is running on the TV or phone.
  2. Check for proxy or Smart DNS settings. Disable a proxy or custom Smart DNS configuration if you set one up. Disney’s guidance is to disable VPNs or similar anonymizers, not to replace them with another location-routing service.
  3. Fully close Disney+. Force-close the app or close the browser, then restart the device so it reconnects without stale app or network state.
  4. Reopen Disney+ and retry. If Error 73 remains, run an internet connection test on the device or network.
  5. Compare another device or network. This helps establish whether the issue follows one device or the original network; it is a practical diagnostic, not a guaranteed Disney diagnosis.
  6. Contact Disney+ support if it persists. Disney’s official guidance directs users to support when its recommended steps do not resolve the error.

These are consistent with Disney’s published steps to use the service from a supported region, disable a VPN or anonymizer, test the connection, restart the device, relaunch the app, and contact support if necessary: Disney+ Error 73 support.

If you are in a supported region and do not use a VPN

A false location signal is possible, but Disney’s Error 73 page does not give a detailed false-positive diagnostic tree. Look for routing or location clues before repeatedly reinstalling the app:

  • A VPN may be running on the router rather than the device.
  • Hotel, office, school, or public Wi-Fi may route traffic through another place.
  • A proxy, Smart DNS, browser extension, or security product may still be changing how traffic is routed.
  • Your internet provider may have assigned a public IP address that a location database places incorrectly. This is a possibility, not a confirmed cause in every case.
  • Mobile-carrier routing can sometimes appear to originate somewhere other than your physical location.

DNS and public-IP geolocation are related but not interchangeable. Returning a manually configured DNS setting to your provider’s default can help identify whether custom DNS is involved; it does not necessarily change your public IP or resolve Disney’s location check. Avoid third-party Smart DNS services as a workaround.

Check by device type

Phones and tablets

  • Disconnect any VPN or privacy-routing service in the device settings or its app.
  • If you manually configured a proxy or custom DNS, turn it off for the test.
  • Force-close Disney+, restart the device, and reopen the app.

Smart TVs and streaming devices

  • Check whether the router or home network uses a VPN or Smart DNS; the TV itself may have no such app or setting.
  • Power the device off completely, restart it, and relaunch Disney+.
  • If the problem is isolated to that device, updating or reinstalling the Disney+ app is a secondary troubleshooting step, not one of Disney’s stated Error 73 remedies.

Web browsers

  • Disconnect the VPN and check operating-system proxy settings.
  • Temporarily disable extensions that route or anonymize traffic to see whether the result changes.
  • Close and reopen the browser, then retry DisneyPlus.com.

Game consoles

  • Review the console’s network configuration and check the router for VPN or proxy routing.
  • Restart the console; if other devices on the network also fail, restart the router as an additional diagnostic step.

Tell whether the problem follows the device or the network

Use these comparisons as diagnostic indicators, not definitive rules. Except for Disney’s stated location and anonymizer causes, the interpretations below are practical troubleshooting inferences.

Test result What it suggests Next check
Error 73 appears on every device using home Wi-Fi A network-level location or IP issue is more likely than a single app problem. Check router VPN, proxy, and DNS settings; then ask your provider whether the public IP’s location may be misidentified.
Error 73 appears on one device only The device, app, or its local network settings are more likely suspects. Restart it and inspect its VPN, proxy, or privacy-routing settings.
Disney+ works on cellular data but not home Wi-Fi The home network or its public IP is the leading suspect. Check router settings and compare with another device on Wi-Fi.
Disney+ works on Wi-Fi but not cellular Mobile-carrier routing or a device setting may be involved. Disable privacy-routing tools and compare the device’s network settings.
Error 73 starts after enabling a VPN VPN detection is the leading explanation. Disconnect it, restart Disney+, and retry.

A router restart is reasonable if every device on the home network fails, but Disney does not list it as a specific Error 73 fix. It may refresh a connection; whether your provider assigns a different public IP afterward depends on the provider and is not guaranteed.

AUTOSKY AI Box Lite Flex – Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Adapter with Selectable Streaming Apps (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video & More) – Plug & Play, Touchscreen Required
  • ✅ Choose Your Apps, Total Freedom Unlike traditional AI Boxes limited to fixed apps, the AUTOSKY AI Box Lite FLEX lets you choose any 2 streaming apps from a list of 13 supported platforms. Switch apps anytime to match your lifestyle—sports, movies, kids content, or live TV.
  • ✅ Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto + Streaming Convert your factory wired CarPlay or Android Auto into wireless, while also projecting streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, ESPN, and more directly onto your vehicle’s screen using WiFi or mobile hotspot.
  • ✅ True Plug & Play – Keep All OEM Controls No coding, no modifications, no extra adapters. Simply plug it in and go. Your original touchscreen, steering wheel buttons, knobs, and voice commands continue working exactly as designed by your vehicle manufacturer.
  • ✅ Wide Vehicle & Phone Compatibility Compatible with most vehicles equipped with wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto. Works with iPhone 6 and newer, Samsung, Pixel, and other Android phones that support CarPlay or Android Auto technologies.
  • ⚠️ Important Compatibility Requirements A touchscreen display is required for streaming apps. Streaming services require an internet connection (WiFi or phone hotspot) and login with your own app subscriptions. This model uses a single WiFi module, so WiFi must be reconnected when switching between wireless CarPlay/Android Auto and streaming apps.

What not to do

  • Do not turn on a VPN to bypass a regional block. Disney tells users to disable VPNs or similar anonymizers, and routing around location checks can result in inconsistent access.
  • Do not assume a DNS change will fix the public-IP location. DNS settings and IP geolocation are different parts of network routing.
  • Do not repeatedly reinstall the app before testing the network. Reinstallation is unlikely to address a VPN or network-wide location signal.
  • Do not treat Error 73 as a password error or proof that your account is banned. Disney describes it as a location-availability or anonymizer issue.
  • Do not assume Error 73 proves an outage. If it appears on several devices and networks, check Disney’s support channels or outage reports; the code itself does not establish a general service outage.

How Error 73 differs from other Disney+ codes

Code Disney+ issue indicated
Error 73 Location is unsupported or the connection appears anonymized.
Error 14 Incorrect password.
Error 39 Content is not authorized for the account.
Error 42 Difficulty connecting to the internet.
Error 43 Content may be unavailable in the region or not included with the subscription; connectivity and VPN issues may also be relevant.
Error 75 Maximum number of devices is streaming.
Error 83 Generic “Something went wrong” message.

Disney lists Error 73 and the related codes in its Error Codes index. For Error 43’s regional and content-access details, see Disney’s Error 43 page. If only one title is unavailable while the rest of Disney+ works, a content or authorization issue may be more relevant than a service-wide location block.

When to contact Disney+ or your internet provider

If Disney+ is offered where you are, no VPN or anonymizer is active, and Error 73 survives the device and network comparisons, contact Disney+. Share enough detail to help narrow down the detected location:
