Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison—four years and two months—on October 3, 2025, followed by five years of supervised release. That is the sentence imposed, not a confirmed measure of how much time remains or a guaranteed release date: custody already served and applicable credits affect the calculation.
What was Diddy sentenced to?
On October 3, 2025, a federal judge in the Southern District of New York sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison and five years of supervised release. The judgment also recommended that the Bureau of Prisons consider him for an available substance-abuse program, including RDAP, if he qualifies. A recommendation does not establish that he enrolled, completed a program, or received a particular credit. The case docket and judgment record the sentence; the Associated Press sentencing report gives the equivalent as four years and two months.
What convictions led to the prison term?
The jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. It acquitted him of racketeering and sex-trafficking charges. The 50-month sentence followed the two convictions; it should not be described as a sentence for charges on which he was acquitted. The verdict and sentence are covered in the AP report.
Why isn’t 50 months the same as time left to serve?
The 50 months is the prison term the court imposed. The amount of time remaining depends on the custody already served and any applicable credits. Those are distinct from the stated sentence, and the sentence alone does not establish a release date.

When is Combs expected to be released?
His projected release date has changed, according to The Washington Post’s September 4, 2026 report. That report is not a substitute for the Bureau of Prisons’ current inmate record. A precise date should be treated as provisional unless checked against that official record at the time it is published; the sources available here do not establish a current, directly verified date.

Combs filed a notice of appeal on October 20, 2025. The Second Circuit heard oral argument on April 9, 2026. The AP’s report on the argument described judges questioning the sentence and the government defending it. Oral argument is not a ruling, and the sources cited here do not establish a final appellate decision. Any statement about whether the appeal remains pending or has been decided should be checked against the current appellate docket.
