The character behind the claim that Yellowstone has “all but erased” someone is Carter, played by Finn Little. The wording is best read as a complaint about how much attention his story receives—not as a claim that he vanishes. Season 5 material still includes Carter, and Paramount+’s later franchise timeline carries him into Dutton Ranch.
Who is the character in the headline?
It is Carter, the orphan Beth and Rip take in during season 4. Hulu’s Yellowstone guide describes him as growing up and learning ranch life in season 5. The 2024 headline’s emotional framing centers on the bond between Carter and Beth; that is an entertainment article’s interpretation, rather than a quoted production explanation.
Finn Little plays Carter. Paramount Press Express’s Yellowstone photo index identifies Little as Carter in a caption for episode 509.
Was Carter actually erased from season 5?
No source cited here supports literal disappearance. Hulu’s season 5 description places Carter in the ranch-life story, and the official episode 509 photo caption confirms an appearance. Peacock’s season 5 listing provides episode synopses and the season’s sequence, but does not measure Carter’s screen time.

Whether Carter feels sidelined is a matter of narrative emphasis. The available listings do not provide a screen-time count, an episode-by-episode accounting of his appearances, or a statement from the production explaining a decision to reduce his role. So “all but erased” should be understood as an opinion about prominence, not a documented production fact.

The headline match appeared in a 2024 Your Next Shoes article, according to an IMDb news index. That framing is time-bound: Paramount+’s Beth-and-Rip timeline carries Carter forward after the Yellowstone ranch storyline and lists Finn Little among the cast of Dutton Ranch. This later official franchise material complicates any current claim that the story has simply abandoned him; it does not, by itself, show how prominent Carter will be in the new series.
For viewers following the family story, the clearest distinction is between a character receiving less focus in a particular stretch and a character being written out altogether. The cited season 5 references support the former as a possible viewer impression, not the latter as a fact.
