Yes. Wicked (the 2024 film) won two Academy Awards: Costume Design and Production Design. It received ten nominations in total, and it was also nominated for Best Picture, which it did not win.
When the film won and which year it counts for
The wins were presented at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, 2025. That ceremony honored films released in 2024, so Wicked is credited to the 2025 Oscars even though most people associate it with the 2024 release. The Academy’s official ceremony page at oscars.org lists the winners category by category and is the primary record for these results.

The two wins
The film took home two of the statuettes it was nominated for:
| Category | Result | Academy-credited recipients |
|---|---|---|
| Costume Design | Won | Paul Tazewell |
| Production Design | Won | Nathan Crowley (Production Design) and Lee Sandales (Set Decoration) |
Production Design is credited to two people because the Academy lists Set Decoration as a separate credit within the same award. Readers who see only one name in a casual summary are seeing a partial credit.

#1 Best Overall
- Wicked, one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, now arrives on your screen as a generation-defining cinematic event.
Best Picture was a nomination, not a win
This is the most common point of confusion. Wicked was nominated for Best Picture, but the award went to Anora. Describing Wicked as a Best Picture winner is incorrect. The film’s Best Picture nomination is accurate and is included in its ten-nomination count.
The full list of nominations
Beyond Best Picture and the two winning categories, the Academy lists Wicked as a nominee in:
- Film Editing
- Makeup and Hairstyling
- Music (Original Score)
- Sound
- Visual Effects
Together with the nominations above, these bring the film’s total to ten nominations. Two of those nominations resulted in wins, and the other eight did not.
Scope of the award
The Oscar result applies to the 2024 Wicked film only. The sequel, Wicked: For Good, is a separate release and is not covered by the 97th Academy Awards results discussed here.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced the film for 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD in a press release dated December 26, 2024, with a physical release date of February 4, 2025. The announcement also described an alternate sing-along version and bonus features. That announcement documents the original release plan; it does not confirm which editions are in stock or what a given retailer’s version contains, so check a current listing before buying.
Where to verify
For category-level results, the Academy’s 97th Academy Awards page is the most reliable source. The Academy Awards Database, which says its entries were complete through the 98th ceremony on March 15, 2026, is the official record of past winners and nominees and is useful for checking the film against later ceremonies. Universal Pictures’ own summary also reports the first film’s ten nominations and its two wins for Costume Design and Production Design.
This is a fiction musical rather than a documentary, so the award facts above are offered as entertainment reference, not as documentary coverage.
