Spoilers for The Marvels follow. A September 2023 report described an alleged plot leak that included Monica Rambeau becoming stranded in another reality and encountering her mother, Maria. The released film did include that central turn in its mid-credits scene, as TIME recapped on release day. That correspondence does not authenticate the anonymous leak or prove every reported detail was accurate.
What did the alleged leak say?
On September 13, 2023, BGR reported that an alleged plot leak had first appeared on 4chan and then moved to Reddit. BGR cautioned that the source could not be verified and described it as less trustworthy. The report noted similarities to an earlier leak and details that seemed to appear in trailers, but those observations did not establish the post’s origin or authenticity. Read BGR’s original report.

According to BGR’s account, Kree General Dar-Benn blamed Carol Danvers for the fall of the Kree Empire and used a device connected to a bangle to tear open reality. The alleged plot said Carol, Monica, and Kamala’s powers became entangled, causing them to switch locations. It also claimed Dar-Benn attacked the Peak, Nick Fury used Flerkens to evacuate its crew, and a confrontation near Hala triggered an incursion. In the purported climax, Monica closed the incursion from the other side and was left stranded in another universe.
BGR attributed two credits-scene predictions to the leak: Monica waking in a hospital in a reality where Maria was alive and had become a Captain Marvel figure, and Kamala approaching Kate Bishop about forming a new Avengers team. These are claims BGR reported from an unverified post, not confirmed facts about who wrote or circulated it.

Which parts matched the released film?
The strongest match is Monica’s fate and the mid-credits scene. TIME’s November 10, 2023, recap says Monica closes Dar-Benn’s wormhole from inside and becomes stranded in another dimension. In the mid-credits scene, she wakes in a laboratory and sees Maria, who does not recognize her. Beast explains that Monica is in another reality; Maria wears a red-and-white superhero costume. The released scene therefore supports the core of BGR’s reported prediction: Monica is stranded in another reality and encounters a living Maria there. It does not demonstrate that the September post was the source of the prediction, nor does it verify every detail in BGR’s account. The sources available for this comparison do not provide equally clear release-era confirmation that the leak accurately predicted the Kamala-and-Kate scene.

GameSpot reported on November 8, two days before the theatrical release, that both credits scenes had leaked. Its account of early-screening details also described Monica meeting Maria in a Binary costume and Beast identifying the parallel reality. That is evidence that credits-scene details were circulating before release, but it does not show that GameSpot’s reported leak and the September post covered by BGR came from the same source. What did Disney confirm officially?
Disney’s official synopsis says Carol, Kamala, and Monica become entangled through an anomalous wormhole connected to a Kree revolutionary and team up. That verifies the film’s broad setup, not the anonymous leak’s provenance or the more specific alleged plot details. Disney’s official The Marvels page lists the film’s release date as November 10, 2023, runtime as 1 hour 45 minutes, rating as PG-13, and director as Nia DaCosta.

So, did the plot leak turn out to be true?
It anticipated several major elements that appeared in the finished film, most notably Monica being stranded in another reality and meeting Maria in the mid-credits scene. But the match between a reported prediction and an onscreen event is not proof of the anonymous post’s origin. The careful conclusion is that the September report got important beats right, while its source and the accuracy of every detail remain unverified.
