Marvel’s official MCU timeline strongly implies that the Earth-616 Scarlet Witch died when Wundagore collapsed, but the quoted passage does not state outright that Wanda is dead. Later, Agatha All Along raised the question again without definitively answering it. So her death is the clearest reading of the story so far—not proof that she can never return.
Which Scarlet Witch is the question about?
This is about Earth-616’s Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, rather than one of the multiverse’s alternate Wandas. Disney identifies Olsen as part of the cast of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, released in the United States on May 6, 2022, and describes Wanda as the Scarlet Witch (Disney’s film listing). D23 identifies Wanda Maximoff as the Scarlet Witch and places the film after WandaVision (D23’s character feature).
What Marvel’s official timeline says about Wundagore
Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline is quoted as describing the Earth-616 Wanda’s final act this way:
“As the kindly 838-Wanda gathers the boys and assures the heartbroken Scarlet Witch they will be loved, the Wanda Maximoff of Universe-616 surrenders: She destroys Wundagore—and collapses it upon herself—ending two great threats to all of the Multiverse.”

The timeline’s phrasing is significant: Wanda brings Wundagore down on herself, and the sentence says that two threats to the Multiverse end. Since Wanda is one of those threats, the passage strongly implies that the collapse kills her. But it does not literally say “Wanda died” or “Wanda is dead.” ComicBook.com quotes the passage from the book (ComicBook.com’s report).
Why the wording stops short of a definitive confirmation
There is a difference between what the passage says and what its context leads readers to infer. The wording explicitly describes Wanda collapsing Wundagore upon herself and says the threats end. Her death is the natural interpretation of that sacrifice, but calling the sentence a direct declaration of death goes further than its text.
That distinction matters in a multiverse story. The passage addresses Earth-616’s Wanda and her apparent fate at Wundagore; it does not establish that every version of Wanda is dead, nor does it rule out a future return for this one.

No. Agatha All Along presents a body found in the woods that is believed to be Wanda’s, but the showrunner did not confirm the identification or settle Wanda’s fate. Asked about the question, Jac Schaeffer said, “I am keeping such a good poker face.” TheWrap reported both the scene and her response (TheWrap’s report).

That keeps the status open to interpretation. The timeline supports an apparent death in the current story; Schaeffer’s response leaves room for uncertainty rather than confirming a permanent end.
