No. Robin Buckley’s crush was Tammy Thompson, not Steve Harrington. Robin explains in the Season 3 bathroom scene that she watched Steve in high school because Tammy was interested in him. Steve accepts her coming out, and the two remain friends.
Who did Robin have a crush on?
Robin liked Tammy Thompson, a girl from their school. Tammy, in turn, was interested in Steve. That connection explains why Robin seemed focused on Steve in high school: she was paying attention to the person Tammy liked, not nursing a crush on Steve. Netflix’s Season 3 recap describes the reveal and Robin identifying herself as a lesbian.
What happens in Robin and Steve’s bathroom conversation?
After Robin and Steve escape Russian custody, Steve tells her he has come to appreciate her over the summer and regrets not getting to know her in high school. His words can sound like the start of a romantic confession. Robin explains that her apparent interest in him was tied to Tammy, her real crush. Steve understands and accepts her, and their bond continues as a friendship.
The conversation takes place in Season 3, Chapter Seven, “The Bite,” identified as episode 307 in the episode teleplay listing.

Why did it seem as if Robin might like Steve?
The season initially frames the pair in a way that invites a romance interpretation. Steve is growing closer to Robin, while Dustin encourages him to ask her out. Netflix’s recap recounts that setup and Steve’s speech before Robin explains what was really behind her attention. The reveal changes the meaning of the earlier clues: this is a misunderstanding involving Tammy, not hidden attraction between Robin and Steve.
How the scene became part of Robin’s story
In the introduction to Stranger Things: The Complete Scripts, Season 3, creators Matt and Ross Duffer credit writer Kate Trefry with suggesting that Robin be gay. They say the choice moved Robin beyond the conventional love-interest role and led to the Starcourt bathroom coming-out scene. The publisher’s listing describes the book as containing all eight Season 3 scripts and the Duffers’ introduction: Penguin Random House’s listing.

Robin’s actor, Maya Hawke, told TIME that the character evolved as the Duffers got to know her during filming, and described Robin becoming more herself as she spent time with Steve and Dustin. That perspective helps explain why the friendship became central to Robin’s story rather than a route to a romance.
