The evidence supports one specific rejection: Melissa Rauch recalled losing a TGI Fridays commercial after a callback in which she was asked to show her hands. It does not establish that she repeatedly lost acting roles in Hollywood for that reason.
What happened at the TGI Fridays audition?
In coverage published January 15, 2023, Yahoo Entertainment, citing People, reported Rauch’s account of auditioning for a TGI Fridays commercial in which she would play a waitress. At the callback, she said, she was asked to show the front and back of her hands to the camera. After the director reacted negatively, she did not get the job. Rauch described her hands as “Hobbit hands,” according to the report.

A 2020 Backstage profile, updated October 21, recounts an earlier version of the anecdote: Rauch tried hand-modeling for TGI Fridays while working as a waitress in winter, when her hands were “raw and beat up.” Together, the accounts point to a commercial opportunity and a hand-related moment—not a documented string of acting-role rejections.
Does this prove her hands cost her the job?
It is Rauch’s recollection, as relayed in the coverage. She connected the director’s reaction to not getting the commercial, but neither report includes independent confirmation from the director or TGI Fridays that her hands were the sole reason she was rejected. The sources do not establish more than the account she gave.

Were other Hollywood roles affected?
The cited coverage does not document multiple roles that Rauch lost because of her hands. Backstage discusses other career challenges and Rauch’s choice to create opportunities by writing material for herself, but it does not attribute those challenges to her hands. Its profile quotes her decision: “I can wait for the perfect role to come along, but I decided I didn’t want to wait on Hollywood anymore.” That career choice is separate from the TGI Fridays anecdote.
