No official material reviewed supports the claim that Marvel Studios recast Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Disney’s current Avengers: Doomsday page identifies the character as “Thor (Chris Hemsworth),” and Disney’s cast announcements also include Hemsworth. That evidence shows he remains listed for the film; it is not the same as a direct studio statement denying a recasting rumor.
What Disney’s current Doomsday page says about Thor
Disney’s current U.S. Avengers: Doomsday page lists the film for December 18, 2026, and captions official imagery “Thor (Chris Hemsworth).” That is the clearest direct evidence in the current official material: Disney identifies Hemsworth as Thor in connection with the movie.
How the cast listings developed
Disney’s March 2025 announcement
In a March 26, 2025 announcement about the start of production, The Walt Disney Company named Chris Hemsworth in the cast. The announcement supports his inclusion in the ensemble, though it does not make a separate statement about whether the role was recast.
Disney UK’s July 2026 release
A July 20, 2026 Disney UK press release again names Hemsworth among the film’s stars. It describes heroes from three distinct universes facing an existential threat, but does not announce a new actor as Thor.

What the evidence does—and does not—establish
The official sources cited here consistently list Hemsworth, and none identifies a replacement actor for Thor or documents an official recast. They therefore do not support the headline claim that Marvel officially replaced him. At the same time, a cast listing is not an explicit denial of every rumor: the reviewed material contains no direct studio quote saying a recast did not happen.
Avengers: Doomsday release dates differ by territory
Disney’s U.S. movie page gives Avengers: Doomsday a December 18, 2026 release date. Disney UK’s July 2026 press release gives the UK cinema release as December 16, 2026, while Disney UK’s current title page lists December 18, 2026. These are different official listings; check the local cinema or ticketing page for the date applicable to your territory.

Where to catch up on Thor
For a refresher before Doomsday, Disney UK’s title page recommends Thor: Love and Thunder among related films. The recommendation makes it a useful catch-up option, but does not by itself establish how the character’s story will continue in Doomsday.
