Police initially investigated an alleged altercation between U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, at a restaurant in Silt, Colorado. The investigation did not remain open: the Associated Press reported on Jan. 10, 2024, that Silt police closed it and called the allegations unfounded due to lack of evidence. Lauren Boebert denied punching him.
What happened at the restaurant?
The reported incident took place at Miner’s Claim restaurant in Silt, Colorado. Early reports said local police were investigating an alleged altercation, but police had not initially confirmed the detailed allegation that Lauren Boebert punched her ex-husband.
On Jan. 7, 2024, Colorado Public Radio quoted Boebert as saying: “This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving,” and, “I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.” Colorado Public Radio’s Jan. 7 report described the initial investigation and her denial.
What did police conclude?
The Associated Press reported on Jan. 10, 2024, that Silt police had closed their investigation. AP quoted the department as saying: “Due to a lack of any evidence, the allegations of domestic violence against Rep. Lauren Boebert are unfounded and the investigation into Rep. Lauren Boebert is closed.” The AP report said the restaurant had no surveillance video recording at the time, no witnesses came forward to provide statements, and police found no injuries on Jayson Boebert. AP also reported that he recanted his claim.
