Fox News, also reporting on May 11, said The Times described a private Friday meeting about the King’s Foundation. Fox News noted that a Buckingham Palace representative had not immediately responded to its request for comment. Why was Prince Harry in the UK?
Harry was in the UK for events marking the Invictus Games’ tenth anniversary. On Wednesday, May 8, he took part in an anniversary panel and attended a service at St Paul’s Cathedral. What did Harry’s spokesperson say about a meeting?
Harry’s spokesperson gave a public explanation before the visit ended, saying that a meeting would not be possible because of the King’s programme. Fox News reproduced the statement: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.” The spokesperson added that Harry understood his father’s diary and “various other priorities” and hoped to see him soon. This is the attributable public explanation for why a meeting would not happen during that visit. It does not establish the King’s private reasoning or explain how the reported Beckham meeting was scheduled.
Was Harry refused a meeting, or did he not ask?
Coverage of the behind-the-scenes discussions presented conflicting accounts. The Daily Beast, summarising reporting by The Sunday Times, said Harry’s friends claimed he had asked to see Charles in advance. It also reported that Charles’s friends said Harry had neither requested a meeting nor invited the King to the St Paul’s service. The article quoted a source close to Charles describing concern about publicity around visits and saying doctors had advised the King to focus on treatment and recovery. As a result, the public statement that a meeting was not possible is clearer than the disputed accounts of who sought one. The reports do not prove that Charles snubbed Harry or prioritized Beckham over his son.

What about Beckham’s later meeting with Charles?
