They do reveal two things that help explain why the show could make loose ends feel like part of its comic rhythm: Kat Dennings said a filmed kiss between Max and Caroline was cut, and Jonathan Kite described the storylines as having “ebb and flow” rather than always being neatly wrapped up.
Why Max and Caroline’s story invited questions
2 Broke Girls paired Max Black (Kat Dennings), a streetwise Brooklyn waitress working two jobs, with Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs), a former trust-fund heiress forced into waitressing after losing her fortune. Channel 4’s 2012 synopsis places them at a Williamsburg diner and frames their shared ambition around raising $250,000 to start a cupcake business. Their friendship, the diner’s ensemble, and the uncertain progress of that business gave the series several storylines that could advance, stall, or circle back without every development becoming permanent.
That is fertile ground for viewers to wonder what happened next. CBS reported at PaleyFest in 2013 that fans were especially curious about upcoming plot points. One audience question, quoted by CBS, was: “Will the two stars of ‘2 Broke Girls’ — Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs — ever share a kiss in an episode?”
Did Max and Caroline ever kiss?
They did film a kiss, according to Dennings, but it did not make it into the episode. At the March 2013 PaleyFest event, she told CBS News: “Trivia: [Beth and I have] done that already, it just got cut out.” She elaborated: “We kissed in an episode. They thought it was a little unnecessary…so they cut it out.” CBS News reported Dennings’s answer; CBS LA also recounted the anecdote.

This is a revealing production detail, but it is not a plot hole: the scene was removed before broadcast, so it was not an on-screen event the series later had to explain. Nor did Dennings say that the cast used the cut scene to create a joke. The anecdote shows that the kiss was considered and filmed, then judged unnecessary by the producers.
What Jonathan Kite said about the show’s loose ends
In a May 2013 interview with CBS News, Jonathan Kite, who played Oleg, discussed the cupcake-shop storyline and the characters’ changing fortunes. He said the shop had “kind of got too big for them,” then described the show’s approach this way: “I think that the cool thing is that there’s a lot of ebb and flow in the show — things don’t necessarily get wrapped up in a tiny little box.” He connected that movement to the possibility that success does not last forever.

Kite was describing the feel of the storytelling, not auditing its continuity or stating a rule from the writers. He also praised the scripts as “so tight” and said there were “so many jokes per page,” adding that the writers had established a style and presence. His comments offer a cast member’s perspective on the show’s pace and story structure.

Here is the interpretation the evidence supports: 2 Broke Girls could use reversals and unfinished business as part of its sitcom engine. A business venture can grow, become unwieldy, and shift direction; a setback can return the characters to the diner and to the quick exchanges that define the ensemble. Kite’s “ebb and flow” description fits that kind of movement, while his praise for the scripts points to the density of jokes that carried it.
That does not make every inconsistency intentional or every unanswered question a clever setup. The sources do not establish a definitive list of the show’s biggest plot holes, nor do they show Dennings, Kite, or the wider cast saying they consciously transformed continuity errors into comedy. “Turned plot holes into gold” is best understood as a critical reading of the show’s comic momentum and cast chemistry—not a documented production strategy.
