Yes, but only slightly and temporarily: Johnny Depp said the teeth he wore as Willy Wonka changed the shape of his face “a little bit.” His account describes an effect of the dental piece while in costume—not surgery or a permanent change.

What did Johnny Depp say changed?

In a July 10, 2005 interview with Dark Horizons, Depp described putting on Wonka’s costume and clicking veneers into his mouth. He said the teeth “actually changed the shape of my face a little bit.” The wording points to a modest change in his appearance while wearing them.

A second interview, published July 16, 2005 by PopEntertainment, records Depp making the same point: the teeth changed his face shape “a little bit.” That corroborates the central detail, though neither interview provides a technical description of the dental appliance.

Does that mean he had surgery or a permanent alteration?

No such conclusion is supported by these accounts. Depp attributed the small effect to the veneers and teeth he wore for the role. The interviews do not establish that he had surgery, used facial prosthetics, or experienced a lasting change to his facial structure.

How did the teeth fit into Wonka’s look?

Warner Bros.’ 2005 production notes identify the film as Tim Burton’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s story, with Depp as Willy Wonka, and give context for the production’s costume and character design. Burton also described the design as a collaborative interpretation of Dahl’s book in a July 2005 BlackFilm.com interview. That context helps explain the deliberately distinctive character look, but it does not document a specific dental or prosthetic technique.
